From Moderate to Deluxe!

Hi all!

My fiancé and I have been bumming over the idea of staying at a moderate for our Disneymoon in a few months. Yes I know-we are definitely those horrible deluxe resort snobs. I'm so embarrassed!

We called Disney juuuust for old times sake to see what was available within a reasonable price range and we were able to upgrade to the Wilderness Lodge!!! We are SUPER excited to be staying deluxe, especially here since it'll be our first stay at the WL. A standard view wasnt available so we snagged a Courtyard view room. We do already have an Artist Point ADR which will also be a first for us. Any WL goer tips???

Thanks!

I seriously considered Wilderness Lodge but plumped for the Beach Club due to the proximity of my favourite park. There's always next time, it's a beautiful resort and I will definitely stay there at some point. I've got an ADR for Whispering Canyon Cafe so I'll have my usual browse around the resort and I also need to swing by Roaring Forks to pick up a magic cookie bar for my son, he is demanding to try one. I blame Hatter.

Congrats on your upgrade and your impending marriage!

I don't think it is at all snobby to stay in a deluxe resort.

Doesn't matter if it is or isn't. It is a really wonderful experience. Stayed at a Four Seasons once and it was magical. Downside - it does tend to ruin you.

Congrats and have fun!

As the years have passed, I have stayed at Comfort Inn style off-property places to POR to AKL, WL and the Poly. Nothing wrong with wanting to stay Deluxe. And you can't go wrong with the Wilderness Lodge.

That "Wow" factor hits you when you're driving up and see the green roof, then the "Wow" takes your breath away when you walk into the lobby. The CM's there are some of the best and I am sure they will make your Disney honeymoon extra special given the chance.

The Courtyard view is the busiest. You can see all the goings on in the pool area -- and hear them most of the time. Not to mention the boat horns and the geyser. (Personally, I love hearing the horns.) Depending on location you may also be able to see the Electric Water Pageant or MK fireworks over the treetops. And you can simply relax on the balcony after a long day.

May you have many happy years together and a wonderful start to them in such a magical place.

Congrats on the upgrade!!! Wilderness Lodge is my favorite resort...

As for the moderate. My husband and I stayed at a moderate for our honeymoon. It was his first time on property and believe it or not we had an amazing time!! So even if you did go that route I don't think you would have been disappointed anyway....but I am so thrilled that you get to stay there!!

I have stayed at all the MK deluxe resorts (except GF) and loved the WL. The staff was so nice, by far the best on property. In fact, we made friends with a lot of the different CM's and they began calling us by name--that's how much they care at the WL. If your into pins, stop by and see Ignez at the pin store. She's 86 and travels two hours to work!! She told us she still worked in part due to the superior management at the WL. She was our pseudo-grandmother and was just wonderful. Moreover, our parties took taxis a bunch and a few times the CM's offered to drive us to our destination in the WL van. We found ourself with door-to-door service, never expecting it! We were very fortunate and will forever regard the WL in a positive light.

Also, our room balcony was facing the Contemp and we were able to watch Wishes from our balcony. It's really a top notch place, and I would choose it again over the Poly. My only wish: that they pool was bigger. There are a lot of people in it and it gets crowded. But those water pumps (or whatever they are called) by the waterfall/stream are a amazing for your back and tired feet.

One thing we did notice: the boat to the MK seemed to take a bunch of time. If you're looking to get there in a timely fashion, I recommend the bus. Also, another thing we noticed is that the bus from WL to Epcot (that stops at the FWC) also ate up time. We ended up cabbing it to/from Epcot due to the long commute. Leave a good hour to commute if you have dining reservations.

...oh, and your not a snob...deluxe's fit your needs better. And, I do think the beds are better. For those of us that have difficulty sleeping and need a place to get a decent night's sleep, by far a deluxe accommodates that. I have had difficulty in the other places sleeping and there's nothing worse than standing in 95 degree heat being a crab due to lack of sleep.

Congrats! Something for you to consider, at the WL there are two "courtyards", one is where the pool is between the wings of the lodge. The other is on the east side of the lodge facing the Villas. this is the view I prefer as it is quieter and more peaceful. I also like going to the pool at the villas better than the main pool, but that's just me, mostly because it is usally less crowded and I can usually get a table and chairs and enjoy a couple beverages or food while I'm there. Have a great trip!
