My inlaws are at the world right now. They were at riverside for lunch yesterday and when they went for a refill, it said not allowed. They asked and were told the only way to get refills is with the refillable mug. I hadn't seen this posted but is it only quick service drink stations? It was bad enough they put chips in the stupid cups and only allowed 3 refills. But if true, this is kind of ridiculous.

I hope if this is the case they also halve the cost of a soda. The only reason I can imagine anyone paying nearly $4 for a soda is if you can refill several times!

Hmm I’ve just got back from Disney and was on QS dining plan, we was asked a few times if we wanted a refill so not sure if it’s slowly being rolled out or what

Yes
I was at Animal Kingdom Lodge last week. When we purchased the normal cups at the QSR we had a chip that gave 3 refills with in 2 hours. I'm not sure if they are changing this.

I just got back from our trip in April and we didn't have any issues. We really didn't do too many refills. In fact only the kids got refillable mugs this year, the wife and I didn't even bother

I thought refillable mugs were the only refill option.. hence the name.
The mugs are for your stay. Just like when you go to McDonalds, if you get a drink, you can refill it for the time you are there. Disney gave you 3 refills with each drink purchased at drink kiosks.

When we were there in March my husband bought a cup for soda and got refills on it. There is a certain amount of time that you have to wait between a fill and a refill, I think it about 5 minutes. And I think only 2-3 refills are allowed. When you fill the cup it tells you how many are left. We had a problem with refilling because when my husband went to fill his cup with Coke the soda was in need of changing it was almost clear. So he went to a different station to see if that would work but of course it was too quick to refill the cup. A CM was around so he explained it to her and she got him a new cup and by that time the Coke was normal again.

I believe that they never actually promoted refills on paper cups and it’s always a been technically illegal - but never enforced.

It doesn’t make sense to sell refillable mugs and give refills on single serve.

Just like pre-chip people would take old refill mugs and use them and convinced themselves it was ok. It never was ok...always forbidden but tolerated.

Things would always officially make sense from a business standpoint...if reality is there was leeway.

Wait what? McDonalds in the US has refills? That’s not fair lol in the UK the drink fountain is behind the counter and the cashier fills it and no refills, a drink costs more over here than in the US too :grumpy:

Yes, free refills at McDonald's. Even at Wendy's or Chick-fil-a, where the fountains are behind the counter, they fill you up for free.

I'm not sure I understand the logic in your post, but, I might be misreading it. I'm sure you know that there is a difference between coming back day after day after day and getting unlimited free refills (not free actually, you paid for the privilege by paying about $18 for a $1 plastic cup) as opposed to taking anything, paper or your own "old" mug and refilling it two years after you paid for it. It does indeed help cut down on shared usage, which is stealing, btw) and if used properly would not really need more then three refills unless you were trying desperately to get a massive sugar fix or quicken the onset of diabetes. There were pictures of people filling empty gallon water jugs with Coke in the morning after never buying a thing. That was when it because an issue. I don't believe that any external kiosk had any rule against refills. If they did, they were not only not enforced or not illegal until the massive abuse kicked in or never actually published it until the brain dead started to feel that it should be free.

It was long overdue, but, I think we would have heard big time if it had been completely done away with.

One Little Spark...
This restriction happened years ago. They called it RapidFill, iirc.

And, yeah, unless you buy the super special unlimited Mug (which is chipped and will stop working the day after your trip expires...I tested this, actually, on a split trip where I had a cruise in the middle, because I was curious...not that I didn't have mugs for my second half of stay)...you were limited to 3 refills. That was always the paper policy, but before RapidFill, it was pretty much unenforceable.
