Free Dining Extended.

Same. I use my own travel agent (who is not allowed to be named here) for the same reason. Last summer when the October FDP dates were extended we looked online and they said the CSR was unavailable. My kids were bummed because they liked that pool the best. We called our travel agent and there were zero issues getting into CSR when the site said no rooms were available. We checked in for our trip and CSR was a ghost town. Clearly the WDW website was trying to steer people into specific resorts. Add onto that but my travel agent got me the exact same trip I built online for hundreds of dollars cheaper and that included trip insurance.

If I booked some stuff myself already, is it too late to use a travel agent? How does that work?

If it's within 30 days of making the booking, you can transfer the booking to an agency to take over. After 30 days of booking, it cannot be transferred.

At that point, only they can make changes to it or make payments on it, but you can still make ADR's etc if you wish.

Thanks for all the added insight. Keep it coming. :)

I'm not expecting anything, but I still have a glimmer of hope that I can get a PO Riverside room for 10/21-10/30 WITH Free Dining (I had a room there that I booked yesterday online, so it isn't full).

Any good travel agents who see this and could help, I'm all ears.

Chris, if you'd like to contact me with your trip information (gloria@kingdomkonsultant.com), I will gladly keep checking to see if anything opens up. As was mentioned, some reservations might cancel opening more spots or Disney themselves could release more rooms to the free dining offer.

I was told by CM that reservations booked with free dining that cancel are not put back into free dining...just into regular category....

If Disney really only made a handful of "free dining" rooms available at certain hotels, the least they can do is add the ones that are "full" (and I use that term loosely) to the excluded list on the special offer page. I know as of yesterday, there are no more free dining rooms at the PO Riverside and the Pop-Century. Probably more too... Just seems really dumb and insincere the way they are currently handling it.

Remember it depends greatly on the exact days you are trying to book. I had no trouble seeing free dining at Pop yesterday for my dates. Also, it changes with time. I couldn't see free dining for Sports yesterday, but my TA could later in the day. I decided to take the discount instead (for now, anyway, for lots of reasons I won't go into here), but my point is it varies with the dates your trying to get and also fluxes as people start to reserve and then clear their cart.

Hi Chris, I was unavailable earlier, so I asked Gloria ( Shopping Nut) to answer your questions. She is a fellow TA At KK and a very good friend. She will take great care of you. As far as a resort being "full" that isnt always the case. Inventory changes too often to ever be sure of anything, but as Disney Joe had said a few simple common sense rules apply. If DIsney thinks a resort is selling well enough, a discount offer is not needed for that particular resort. If there are a good number of rooms, those will be put into the offer. Booking a room at a resort will NOT guarantee you a room at a discount and if anything, will lower your chances as that is one more room gone from the regular inventory at that resort. Be as flexible as you can, dates, resorts, room types etc. That will help. Traveling over holidays is typically more expensive as well as more crowded. Best of luck with getting a good deal for you and your family!!! Marie

Exactly. From what I understand, it is based on check in day.

Yeah, that was my understanding about the 2 reservations. But now I am wondering if I will be stuck without park tickets our first 2 days. Only reason I booked the 9 day with the dining plan was to use the extra 2 days when we arrive. Hopefully they will allow us access to those park tickets when we get there on the 9th.

You should be able to pick up your park tickets up to 3 days before the package begins...

This is taken from mousesavers:

"On your “room only” night(s), you would have no package benefits. However, if your theme park tickets are part of the package, you can pick the tickets up and use them, up to 3 days before your package begins. Go to any theme park Guest Relations window (or Downtown Disney Guest Relations) and request Early Ticket Pick-Up. (Major theme parks only: this cannot be done at a water park.) Note that although you can pick up your tickets early, you cannot get access to the Dining Plan or any other benefits of your package until you have actually checked in for the package stay at your resort."

Hi Dubman, I split a stay for a client the other night and was told again by Reservations that the access to the package components will not happen until the first day of the package booking when the Guests check in for their package portion of their trip. Mousesavers is not an official Disney website so that information is not guaranteed or honored by Disney necessarily. I would contact whoever you booked your plans through amd have them verify what the correct answer is on this. Good luck!! Marie

so what does this mean? Universal has stale content too
https://www.universalorlando.com/Ho...ays-to-Vacation.aspx?__source=print.uid000036

lol - contrary to popular belief, Disney is not panicking and thinking Universal is going to put them out of business

2012 stats:

Magic Kingdom – 17,536,000
EPCOT – 11,063,000
Animal Kingdom – 9,998,000
Hollywood Studios – 9,912,000
Total: $48,509,000

Universal Island of Adventure – 7,981,000
Universal Studios – 6,195,000
Total: $14,176,000 (still less than MK alone)

Not only are they not panicking they aren't even reacting even though Uni is steadily catching up. Such arrogant behavior has been Many company's downfall in the past.

Thank you Marie, I was finally able to get in touch with customer service and was told I would not be able to access my package tickets before the check in date. Guess we will spend a day at downtown Disney and another at Universal.. Oh well. For the day at Universal, just need to figure out if I should rent a car for the day or take a taxi.

Sadly, I think Disney has reached the point, full parks or not that they have to release a free dining offer every year. Too many people expect it but to be truly honest, the resort discount is more than likely the better deal, but when people see free food, Disney gets them.

If you plan on eating in the parks every day, the dining plan saves you significantly more than the hotel discount. For instance, I'm staying at the Caribbean Beach for 10 days. The 20% hotel discount would save me $362 bucks. The dining plan would have been an extra $1400. Again, everyone has different requirements, but for me it was a no brainer - I have to eat in the parks anyway (no car).

To do a realistic comparison, IMHO, one has to take into account how you plan to eat as well. If, without the meal plan, you would normally eat (for example) on a five day trip at two sit-down dinners at non-signature restaurants, and have one counter service per day on the three other days, and fill in the day with a snack each day and eat breakfast in the room with food you brought with you, then your actual cost will probably be much less than the cost of a meal plan, and that may make the discount a better deal for you. If you've planned a number of signature meals, and lots of sit-down restaurants, and counter service (such as full breakfast) every day in addition to the sit down, then free food is almost definitely for you.
