Free Dining 2014?

Would it make sense for me to just book November 9th-16th and then apply the free dining when it's released? I don't think we're planning our vacation around the dining plan, and rather the days I mentioned above are set in stone.

We're thinking of staying at Port Orleans Riverside btw. Oh and we're Disney Visa card holders.

I did see on the Disboards, that certain resorts will be excluded. That happens because, Disney releases deals based on room occupancy. So when people book before discounts come out and Disney sees that 60% of their rooms are filled even without discounts, they are less likely to put out discounts.
I have not seen one confirmed FD discount only rumors.
ADRs are completely unaffected by room reservations, so you should have no issues if you move your dates.
What will be funny is the mass reservation transfer out of some of those resorts many people only seem to go this tI'm of yeAR for the deals

I'm actually not very happy about the possibility of POR being excluded... many people on the Disboards are already saying they will transfer to CSR and my favorite thing about CSR is how uncrowded it is. I like that it stays under the radar LOL... oh well.. we will have to see what happens...

You can definitely do that - it seems the resort and vacation dates are your priority anyways. Just keep in mind that if you intend to take advantage of this potential offer, the dates have to fall within the offer parameters, and you may have to be flexible with resort choice.

I actually think you should wait. Disney releases discounts based on room occupancy, so the more rooms reserved at rack rate, the less likely a discount will be offered. You are visa card holders so you get an advantage by a few days anyway.

Yeah we're in no rush to book so I think we'll just wait and see what happens. So we're thinking May 6th for cardholders? I just hope it works out, I've really got my heart set on PO:RS

I tend to wait, I want to price check and see the best value for my family before booking. Meaning, depending on the resort and price. It's just how I do it.

I always say this and no one ever listens. Don't pre-book people! You're just reducing the chances of getting a discount.

While I usually look for room discounts, I usually book ahead of the discount so I can have 180+10.

There are a few random people on other sites claiming they got FD this morning...which doesn't sound right. A few others mentioned reservationists hinting at tomorrow being the big day. We shall see.

i'm at POR from 7th - 24th, as the free dining is during most of my stay, would i be able to take my dining plan off, have the free dining 9th - 20th and then pay out of pocket on the remaining days? if that makes sense

We are booked for Oct 4-11 at POR. If this is true and if we change our arrival to Oct 3rd would that give us free dining for the remainder of our stay? Also, if I am going to do change our arrival should I go ahead and call today to do it?
I would change it. I know last year POR booked up fast.

I love everything about it!
It isn't in your face Disney but it is beautiful and really quiet. Even with conventions, the entire resort feels empty! The main pool is really stunning when you first see it and the 22 person hot tub ain't too bad either. ;) The 3 smaller pools are almost always empty.
We have done both preferred and standard rooms in Casitas & Cabanas, first and second to last bus stop. We never had an issue with buses. We loved being first on the buses at Casitas but even at the second to last Bus Stop in Cabanas we always got a seat. We always found in the morning that there were two buses for each park almost back to back.
We probably waited no more than 5 - 10. The bus to DTD can take a bit longer though. Blizzard Beach is just a minute or 2 away.
