A move is easy - just call and the CM moves it, real easy, MDE barely has a chance to know that something happens, the confirmation even stays the same. This happens all the time.
I believe this issue/rumor/fix is meant to handle those who make reservations that they will cancel later - that is when FP will be dropped.
I know that's what they want to address. As an outsider (aka, never working there or in any sort of a booking role anywhere), I simply don't know the process. I thought to switch resorts/rooms, they cancel your current reservation, and rebook you where you want. As long as they have that figured out so you don't lose out in that situation, I have 0 issue with this at all.
The way this has been described, you are supposed to have a "grace period" of a couple of days from the date you cancel a resort reservation to allow for rebooking without losing your FP+ reservations. Whether it actually works or not remains to be seen. As has been pointed out, Disney is not particularly know for the quality of their IT infrastructure.I know that's what they want to address. The confirmation number does not change when changing resorts and even dates in the majority of cases. You are right. to change your reservation in any way, the old one is canceled and a new one generated. hopefully indeed those people won't lose their FP. an organization the size of Disney should be able to IT this, but we all know how well their website works!
Man, I wish this had been in place when I booked my fast passes for my upcoming trip. Staying on property, booked everything the minute I was able to at the 60 day window, and still didn't get some of the fast passes I was hoping for. Now I know why that probably happened.
That's tougher though because sometimes there are legit reasons for the change.
Is the similar loophole that allows for 180 day ADR's to be made and kept post resort cancellation also being plugged with this change? Or was that already handled long ago?

I wonder how much of a change we'll see in both room availability and fast pass availability because of this
Read that sentence again. Same day availability is what I want. Not a month out. This is a ride targeted at the 10 and under crowd. Forcing parents to predict how their kids are going to be behaving 30-60 days out is a big ask.Frozen? Those seem relatively available. I just checked and there are tons of times available from 3PM forward 30 days from now. Even 29 days out there are plenty.
Next day availability eliminates a lot more, same day availability is even worse. So that's flat out untrue.
The only attractions not showing availability 30 days out (or 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, etc) are 7DMT, SDD, and FoP. Navi shows some days of unavailability at days 28 and 26 for some reason, but other than those, everything else is available.
That's three attractions out of the entire resort.

You can even get FoP passes day-of if you're persistent. I get them almost every time.
I've heard that and even been the benefactor of it. But constantly refreshing your phone in hopes of getting a same day fastpass isn't exactly a good guest experience. They often drop FoP FPs at 11:01, 1:01, and 3:01 day of.
I’m not so sure this is accurate. I changed resorts and had the same confirmation number. Called again and changed dates, same confirmation number. Called yet again when a promo at ANOTHER resort would save me hundreds....yep, same confirmation number. Never lost a thing. You are right. to change your reservation in any way, the old one is canceled and a new one generated. hopefully indeed those people won't lose their FP. an organization the size of Disney should be able to IT this, but we all know how well their website works!
This is sold as a guest perk, and there are certainly guests that appreciate the advanced bookings, but I refuse to believe that guests wouldn't be better off with legacy rules on a digital platform.
I love it. Many others love it. We like to plan. We do not like to get to the park at RD and run around like mad people. YOU may not like that, I find that very believable. Some people do not like it. But it is ridiculous to act like people could not possibly like it just because you don't. That is the definition of self-absorbed.
I agree with you about the same day availability. Ideally they could do a hybrid system. Allot say 60% to advanced booking and 40% to an app based version of the old system. If you reserve in advance you can't use the same day until the reservations are used or expire. That way people that like to plan will be able to but people who don't (like me) can be more spontaneous and at least have a decent chance to get FOP even if the FP ends up several hours later. The old system let you get another FP after 2 hrs if your FP was more than 2 hrs away.Read that sentence again. Same day availability is what I want. Not a month out. I want same day availability for everything. The old rules weren't broken. The old rules didn't require phased "fixes" over a 3 year period. The old rules didn't have a steep learning curve that dramatically affected the guest experience.

The system is awful. MaxPass is a superior guest experience.
I believe it is a modification vs a cancel/rebook. Too much could go wrong with a cancel/rebook. A cancel refunds money too.I’m not so sure this is accurate.
