News FPs cancelled when Hotel room cancelled

While I'm glad they are closing this loophole, of course, I also can't help but think that given the amount of people that did this, or who do other things to extend their windows (I've seen people mention folks booking longer trips, getting their FP dates earlier, then trimming the trip down, etc.) that the real issue is this ridiculous system where people book rides 60 days out to begin with that encourages people to cheat any way they can so they can have a decent trip.

Agreed. If you're not staying on site, don't plan on riding the top tier rides without at least a few hour wait. Just booked FP's for my trip 30 days out and most of the top rides were completely out of FP ( Flights of passage, 7DMT, Frozen ride , slinky dog dash, ect.) Seems a little unfair considering I just dropped 2k for annuals.

Frozen? Those seem relatively available. I just checked and there are tons of times available from 3PM forward 30 days from now. Even 29 days out there are plenty.

Unrelated Question: What happens when a reservation is cancelled? I assume that the original form of payment is credited in a few business days. Currently, I have two reservations at two different resorts for the same dates until my brother tells me if he is going for sure or not. For one, I paid $150 with a gift card and $50 with a credit card. For the other, I paid the deposit with only gift cards. After I cancel one, I assume that I can take the gift card balance I get back and pay it on the other reservation, right? I have not booked FPs yet as I cannot until May. Thanks.
Yes, the original form of payment is credited, usually within a few days or so, but they usually tell you 1-2 billing cycles (but it is usually much sooner) - so hold onto the gift cards.

I really don't see an issue with this. It makes sense to close that issue. Now, I will say I hope they made it so if you switch your reservation (like 45 days out, I decide I just don't have the funds for Beach Club, I need to stay at Coronado instead), that wouldn't impact your FPs.

But to all who complain that they can't get FP, gotta say I'm a bit surprised. I've been locked out of everything I have wanted before, but if I keep looking leading up to the trip, I almost always get it. I got FoP 10 days before our last trip (it was gone 30 days before), same with Mine Ride, etc. I don't disagree that it would be better without them at all, but I also usually get them when needed.

So that's flat out untrue.

The only attractions not showing availability 30 days out (or 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, etc) are 7DMT, SDD, and FoP. Navi shows some days of unavailability at days 28 and 26 for some reason, but other than those, everything else is available.

That's three attractions out of the entire resort.

I wonder how this will work with Shades of Green. Last trip our reservation unlinked itself from our itinerary at least once a week even though our reservations didn't change. I had to input it again every time I came in to update anything.

From what ive heard some people get a camp site and just eat that cost. Maybe this will help with the fort being booked solid but empty sites from these people.

But that’s fair enough in my book. If they keep that reservation and pay for it, they are entitled to the onsite perks. This will not affect them.

I understand it’s annoying, but you can’t force people to use a room or campsite if they’ve paid for it.

You dropped 2k in annuals, the people with 60 day windows likely dropped 5k or more easily and that's only for the time that they're going to be there, unlike yourself who just got a years worth of admission and has the ability and flexibility to go much more often and therefore don't necessarily have to try to cram as much into your visit as possible. So yes, they should get first dibs since they are paying more and it might be their only trip.

OK, apologies.

However, you were complaining that you, as an AP holder, were being denied FPs by other AP holders who were being “greedy”. Quite what you thought the solution to that was, I haven’t a clue.
To clarify, the AP holders who do get the elusive Fastpasses in advance literally have to scrounge for them. Even 30 days out when I was planning a trip for my friend and I (I normally don’t plan visits in advance more than a few days) I had to refresh frequently for several days for Flight of Passage to even show up.

One other time I’ve been in DAK and managed to snag two FoP FP’s that randomly appeared, but again I only did that while bored in line and refreshing the app over and over.

I don’t like that even two weeks to 30 days out there are certain attractions I simply can not get without dedicating time to getting them. I know why Disney does it - their main goal these days is to fill those hotel rooms. But I don’t like it. The playing field used to be even for everybody under the old system, with on-site guests getting the benefit of Extra Magic Hours, but they have significantly reduced these to almost nothing in favor of upcharge night events.

I see two problems Disney is addressing with this change.
First, it will reduce the number of late room cancellations. W/ a late cancellation Disney is left w/ empty rooms, resulting in lost income from people who might have rented and actually paid for & used the rooms.
Second, I suspect Disney is looking to tighten the FP+ loopholes because they anticipate a surge in FP demand once the new SW GE land opens. I seem to remember that right around the time TS Land opened they tightened up the rider swap rules, since the TS Land demographic probably has a disproportionately high number of rider swap users, it made sense to deal w/ that loophole then. If the new rides are decent, SW GE is going to be jammed for a long time, so best to start closing the known system work arounds down before it opens.

Anywho, what would happen if you canceled/moved your hotel stay to another Disney hotel with FPs already selected? Would they get canceled or transferred?
A move is easy - just call and the CM moves it, real easy, MDE barely has a chance to know that something happens, the confirmation even stays the same. This happens all the time.

I believe this issue/rumor/fix is meant to handle those who make reservations that they will cancel later - that is when FP will be dropped.
