Food and the parks

I need a little help. I am going to WDW in 7 weeks. I went last year and my family was allowed to bring backpacks that contained food for our children into the parks, i.e. crackers, sandwiches and bottled drinks. Now someone has told me Disney will not allow this. Have they changed in the year since my family has been our do you think I will still be allowed to bring these items in. It really helps with small kids to be able to pull out small snacks when needed. I have never had a problem but wonder if I will this year.

i havent heard anything along those lines. I would proceed as you always have. I cant imagine that Disney would say you cant bring in small snacks like that. Glass bottles of a beverage probably not just due to a security risk, but fruit snacks, cheese & crackers etc?? I wouldnt think it would be a problem!!! Belle

We brought a back pack in this past February that was loaded with 12 sandwiches, Rice Krispie treats, cokes, and chips. This is the only way the majority of our party could go to WDW. When security is searching the bags; they are looking for weapons. I don't know what they would say about glass, but I personally wouldn't think it's a good idea to carry glass anyway.

In years gone by Disney banned guests from taking food into the parks. I have old guide books from the 80's that state this. The new guide maps no longer have this rule, so unless you are bringing in a rolling barbecue you will be OK

We have always brought in the types of snacks you described, even when Disney discouraged it. With little kids sometimes you just don't have the luxury of waiting on line for a snack. As long as you have no glass you should be ok, Although last year they made my daughter open her Nutrigrain bar at the checkpoint. :veryconfu

As stated by others you may bring food into the parks. Every bag is checked prior to entrance to every parks and nothing has ever been said other than the occasional security guard joking that they are confiscating all Snickers bars, M&M's etc. We always take in sandwiches fruit snacks drinks etc.

You will not have a problem with snack items being brought into the parks in backpacks UNLESS the rules change in the 7 weeks before you go.
Or you are taking in more snacks than you could possibly eat and it could be implied that you will be selling them illegally in the parks for your own commercial gain

We were just there in mid-May, and I saw several people eating from their backpacks. Sandwiches, water, small boxes of cereal..... even containers of potato salad. Spoilage would concern me with potato salad, but oh well.

From what I understand (and I could have a bad source), the official rule is "no outside food at all." However, it's hardly enforced, as evidenced by so many people here telling you not to worry. So I wouldn't either. The conspiracy theorist in me suspects the rule could be used to mess with people who are acting like jerks-if they wanted to keep troublemakers out, they could, in theory, go "Aha! A Snickers bar! No outside food!" And then boot the troublemakers out.

One of the unofficial guides has pages of testimonials from people saying how they bring in food, plastic bottles of juice and water, paks filled with snacks, etc.

Disney can't make a rule that says you can't bring food in. Babies have to be fed formula, baby food, baby snacks, etc. It's not like you can guy some gerber graduates at the snack stand.

We always bring a backpack full of food. They don't care.

I, like Barnum, can remember the days of no outside food. I remember exiting the park with my parents and eating lunch on some picnic tables outside of the entrance to Disneyland in the early 80's.

This past October I brought many kid supplies (and parent treats) into WDW. Even though the large, hard-sided coolers are not allowed in, we brought a small, soft-side collapsible cooler in (think small insulated backpack).

We had food for our then 15 month old daughter and sandwiches, Coke, treats, and water for us. Freezing the water bottles beforehand kept everything cold and allowed for some very nicely chilled drinks for those oh-so-pleasant Florida afternoons.

Nary a word was said about the food, but this may have been because we had the baby stuff on the top of the small cooler.

Regardless, if anyone is given any trouble, tell them it is needed for dietary reasons (which Disney cannot provide) or you need it to take with medication.

You should not have any trouble.

We did exactly the same thing. When our bag was being searched, the CM said, "Oh good. Waters for everyone - it's hot today! Snacks to keep your energy up - great! Have a nice day." Having said that, I do remember going back to the parking lot for a picnic lunch when my parents took us as young kids.
