My family and I currently live in Ohio. We are considering a move to Florida but are very worried about it. We hear that wages are nothing like they are here. We ware worried we could not support our famil of 4. If we would move down there would my my wife and I have to both work full time jobs to get anywhere? Also if we would both work at Disney then we would have to work full time and we still probably wouldn't make it. Right?

Any help you can give us is greatly appreciated. We want to move bad but our worried about jobs and making a living down there.

Thanks a lot. Any help you can give is better then no help at all.

Wages are lower here, but the cost of living is also.

There's a happy balance, but still, times are tough everywhere, so most likely there would need to be 2 incomes, and even still, a lot of families have financial issues.

Well, wages in florida are low, but it depends on where you live. My father works alone, and supports 3 children, but then again, he does have a relatively high salary.

First why do you want to move here? You need to take a pad of paper and write the pros/cons of moving to Florida. And unless you could get something that isn't entry level at Disney, you could not support a family. Remember there is a lot more to Orlando then Disney. And I don't really see the cost of living that much different, except the utilities seem to be cheaper. But a lot of the house built here are so cheaply done. My parents live in Ohio btw. If you want quality home construction you are going to pay a mint.

Travis has a very good point. First you have to decide why you want to move to Florida, and is it worth it? We moved here because my husband wanted to do a stint in the military (he was exempted from Viet Nam due to an injury, then the war was ended...I think he had a little bit of guilt) and this was one of the more attractive duty assignments. However, the Navy paid for the move, gave him an enlistment bonus, and we knew what our salary would be BEFORE the move. Also, the fact that we COULDN'T move again until his tour was over made a huge difference....I hated it initially! After 3 years I was more settled, and now, after 20 years, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.

When I was much younger, I moved to a city(Boston) that I had visited many, many times. (I had friends there) I discovered that visiting a place is very different from working and living in the same place! I moved back "home" about 6 months later!

BTW, 919, I glanced at your profile! If you're posting for someone else, it would be polite to mention it, rather than posting in the first person! (according to your birthdate, you're younger than my daughter)

It doesn't REALLY change the advice I gave you...I was just assuming that I was talking to someone in his 20s or 30s, not a teenager. And I would hope that someone closer to my age (as your parents probably are) would have enough life experience to make a decision without my advice.

However, if you really ARE married with 2 children, you have more problems than I can (or care to) address!

LOL, that's funny. Maybe a parent signed onto the kid's name to ask the question.

Anyway, everything is relative. I live near Chicago and although many, many jobs here would pay a lot more than in FL, I have been told that my particular job pays more in FL. So check out the specifics. Also, as mentioned above, wages are related to cost of living.

If I were your parents, I would try www.salary.com to see where things stand.

Just an example-- My husband and I found that if we move to AZ (where we plan to go in a few years) he would be making about $10,000 less a year, but our house would be about $50,000 less.
