I think anything without fireworks will disappoint the crowd, IMHO. That and no Disney characters for the 2 year olds to enjoy. The show needs work but it's not trying to be anything more than what it says it is, a nighttime water show. If people have higher expectations, that's on them.

The problem is that the entire show is built around the dozens of autonomous, glowing mini-boats that form the shapes of animals... which never worked properly and aren't in the show.

Imagine if none of the fireworks launchers for Illuminations ever worked but Disney decided to run the show anyway with the remaining elements that actually did function, without changing the focus or flow of the show. It would be disjointed and empty.
And that's Rivers of Light.

I suppose you could look at it that way. It's not a perfect show by any means but I think the bones are there. Some guests just won't ever 'get' it, though. But I don't think it's because of that, overall. The average guest doesn't look at things like we do. It's likely simplistic to them. Not saying Bairstow isn't correct, but I doubt the average guest overthinks these things. For some it could have been a failure because they didn't like the seating. (Again, the show isn't perfect and needs work, but guests dislike things for a wide variety of reasons, most of them overly simplistic and based on their emotions at the moment and they likely don't recognize the real reason they may not have enjoyed it fully)

In the video they are taking feedback, but how much can they really do? They may be able to tighten up some segments. There are bigger problems like mixing the mystic India setting and spiritual host with 2 silly cartoon characters. You can't fix that by Sunday.

Agreed. And I think you've hit upon something they probably should have explored in greater detail. I wonder if a mystical storyline would have helped meld the tonal inconsistencies and competing themes.

The entirety of Rivers of Light was structured around the Lotuses. The mini-lanterns were more of a color garnish to compliment their slow moving big brothers and prop up the Animal Spirit parade until the Lotuses got their cue. Once they got dropped, Animal Spirit parade got trimmed to compensate.

Because the boring Star Wars show at Hollywood’s Studios is so much better...
I've never sat and watched the Star Wars show (I assume you're talking about the stage show in front of the Chinese Theater), so I can't comment on it's quality. I view that as something like a Tomorrowland dance party stage show level whereas A Great Bird Adventure is a more substantial stage show. Either way, good is good regardless of scale, and the new bird show isn't good.

No I was referring to the fireworks nighttime show becsuse you were saying that’s Rivers of Life wasn’t good. While I think RoL is much better than the Star Wars nighttime show.

That must be one heck of a phone booth...
Oh god... you too? Rivers of Light is an underwhelming show. Star Wars is a fantastic use of fireworks, lasers and projections, admittedly on a smaller scale.

For what it's worth, Rivers of Light was also in development for 2-3 years (if not more), whereas the Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular fireworks were a much quicker development process.

According to TouringPlans.com surveys, Rivers of Light is 3.5 stars across the board except for seniors who have it as 4.5 stars. Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular is 4.5 stars across the board.

So, no. Not a particularly big phone booth.

Rivers of Light is a different style show that I don't think can be compared to your typical fireworks show. While I do like the Star Wars show it doesn't use as much pyro as it could.

I mean, I feel like if we've already needlessly thrown cartoon characters into the mix, might as well throw the bird character into the bird show too.

This whole UP inclusion seems awkward. If Kevin at least represented a real species of bird, the show could educate the audience about that species.

They may as well use the Yeti in an educational dance show about the great apes.
