FLE Completion Timeline

A real Aladdin ride would be awesome. I had an idea of using a similar style to Peter Pan's Flight where it hangs you from a track in magic carpets. Hide the hanging arm with cloud decorations or whatever. I'd make it with recent technology though, Pan is outdated. The ride would speed up and down at certain scenes. Have heavily detailed and very animated models. Lots of potential for a dark ride. If they made it with new technology and added some variable speeds to the mix, it could actually be extremely fun for all ages.

Won't ever happen of course, but i can create my own dreams. :)

2014 for the Mine Coaster is a negative surprise. I should have expected that, though, as construction on that hasn't started already.

It's surprising, isn't it? I mean, it's almost a full five years from the time the FLE was first announced in September, 2009 at the D23 Expo.

Fantasyland Expansion/Magic Kingdom Updates:

- Mickey's tent has officially been torn down from TTF
- Signs indicate that the other tents are soon to follow, so that they can be replaced with new updated ones.
- Mickey's house is now gone. I believe Minnie's as well. (but i couldn't get a clear enough view to tell)
- SDMT has not begun contruction yet. Major construction will probably not begin until LM and BATB have finished most of their main construction and the show/set imagineers move in to work on interior and exterior details.
- BATB is nearing completion of exterior walls. While LM has already finished the exterior concrete and now shifting focus to interior.
- Mickey meet-&-greet in Town Square Theater is almost finished, just a few minor details left. This will be the first offering of a FastPass for a meet-&-greet. (don't start b*tching about the FastPass, Disney is already way ahead of you and it will not affect stand by wait times)
- Most of the LM ride work has moved indoors. Interior is progressing nicely, you can already make out the showrooms for the scenes and how the ride will travel through the building.
- Last i checked on the Speedway it was still down to 3 lanes i believe. Definitely want to avoid it ride now, queue time is constantly double to triple what it would normally be, because most guests don't realize they are running off of fewer tracks.
- Tortuga Tavern and Tomorrowland Terrace are now open daily for the busy season. Expect to see Diamond Horseshoe open periodically as well. It is still unfortunate that DH is not a working restaurant anymore, it is a beautifully designed building that really gives you that wild west saloon feel on the inside which is just what Frontierland needs. At least Liberty Tree kitchen is willing to share food!
- Haunted Mansion queue is almost finished, should be opening up soon.
- Main Street Electrical Parade is still running "indefinitely," however, it will be returning to Disneyland possibly by year's end.

I think that's about all for now... have a magical night everyone!

If anything maybe thats a good sign. If it takes 5 years to build a light rollercoaster, maybe they're really trying to up the technology on and around the ride. The queue may be really impressive.

Does this mean spectro is returning or not, some say it left the property for good while others are saying its still here being refurbed.

anyway back to fantasyland....a few posts back it was mentioned how this gives TDO alot of time to do budget cuts on it. I agree it feels that way, but I hope Staggs doesnt allow it and puts his foot down.

it sounds like mermaid is moving along super fast now, when it does open its just going to be sad that it will be ugly all around it with the construction of the mine train in the middle. but for some reason thats how TDO does things, just like with SE, send people into something thats still under construction. hopefully these attractions though will be totally show ready before they do unlike the fiasco's at epcot.

But they haven't started building it yet. If they started now, it would be 3 years and it sounds like they won't start it for a while.

It's obvious they'll at least have to build one new one, if not two. Since this is a double Dumbo ride. And while the concept art isn't a good indication of anything (of course), it seems to be undergoing major theme changes, doing away with some of the more elaborate gold/red/blue mechanical workings in the middle of the rides. I'm thinking these are new rides, not recycled ones. That's totally my own speculation though, so don't think i know anything lol!

The concept art also shows one of the spinners has double capacity as the other spinner. I wonder if dumbo could be getting fastpass.(doubt it).

I think that was just the way the artist had drawn it. One was in motion and the other was stationary. The one in motion looked as if it had more Dumbos. I think one of our insiders confirmed that they were going to be exactly alike!?!

Why does it take so long to build? I'm just curious. Large municipal schools don't take much more than a year or so to construct (we were a sub-contractor on many in Mass.) and they have a lot of picky issues. I know the engineering must be pretty extensive on a coaster but that is basically done before a contractor is selected and the first shovel goes into the ground. I assume the ride itself is probably got some specialized sub-contractors and then the artistry work will take some time, but the basic building is a big steel frame building with normal mechanical systems.

A large municipal school has a lot of picky issues, but they are a different set of picky issues. You are not going to ride a school. There are safety issues; mechanical issues having to do with the ride vehicles, if they are to be built with the same sort of tech as, say, Winnie The Pooh; mechanical issues having to do with the animatronics; lighting issues; art issues. It would be different if the construction was a walk-through exhibit, like a wax museum.

I would like to see things get done ASAP, as well as the next person on this forum, but taking the extra time should increase the chances that they will not have the same troubles as with The Yeti, about which people will grouse until the Apocalypse. (i.e. "Take the time, do it right.")

FLE - Luvin' it

Been a long time reader of this blog but thought I'd take the plunge and participate for a change.

I'm loving all the new FLE talk but like many others I am frustrated by the length of construction time. I was planning a return visit in 2013 but now may consider waiting until 2014 for the full effect. I wonder how many other people will also think this way. Could I be shooting myself in the foot and going in the year that the crowds will be unbearable or should I go pre full opening and benefit from reduced squishidge (new word - feel free to use).

Either way, WDW is an experience I am now addicted to, unfortunately for my bank balance. :ROFLOL:

Love the "squishidge" description! :sohappy: Sounds much more appropriate that my phrase of "shoulder to shoulder".

I had originally planned a late honeymoon for this past November (we've been married for a year and a half, at this point). Delays have put our ETA at Late September 2012. Time to save up enough money to be able to afford to go to Disney World.

Anyway, the point being that, while we hope that a good bit of the new construction will be completed by that time, Disney is always going to have something going on, and, if we wait until this construction is completed or that construction is completed, we'll never get there. And that ain't in The Plan.

My tuppence, of course ...

I think you would be surprised at the number of people who have no idea anything is even being built. In January I actually saw someone asking for directions to 20K and a couple looking for pleasure island clubs....

Not real fans then I guess. I just kinda thought that Disney will hype to the max. I wouldn't expect unbelievable Harry Potter style opening queues (did you see them!! - I would turn and walk if I turned up to that), but I would expect much larger than average overall attendance in 2013 or 14 or whenever they actually fully open.

I don't mind a busy park but I like to soak in the atmosphere not be totally crammed in or risk missing out. I guess I'm likening this to my own experience with Harry Potter which when I attended not long after the opening was really overcrowded and took the shine off what could otherwise have been a great new world for Universal.

I hope Disney manage big turnouts better than Universal.

Perhaps it is better that they open each section at a time and reduce the liklihood of a massive influx of people all at once.:)

WDW renovations never stop me

Don't let the FLE postpone any of your planned trips to WDW. WDW is always doing some kind of renovation or expansion and I have never let that stop any of my trips. There is just so much to enjoy that why would it hamper my trip? A true WDW lover overlooks those pesky inconveniences and just looks forward to the finished product. Besides, it gives another reason to re-visit and see it completed.:)
