FLE Completion Timeline

I do have to say it's taking them a very long time.
Look at Carsland at DCA. An entire mountain range in less time it'll take to build Snow White?
Seems like Disney's more interested in fixing up their failure then improving their success.

You are assuming that they are ready to start building Snow White. This was a late addition to the plan so it's very possible that the design and engineering work has not been completed yet, so they may not even be in a position to start construction even if they wanted to.

My copy of the timeline says:
Rethemed Barnstormer - Jan-Mar 2012
Dumbo - Apr-June 2012
Circus and Princess M&G - July-Sept 2012
Beauty and the Beast/Little Mermaid - Oct-Dec 2012
Mine Coaster - Jan-March 2014

As always, subject to change. May not reflect soft openings.

Whew... that's a large project. I was hoping to go in the early summer of 2013 (promised to take my stepson when he's tall enough to ride everything) but now I think he's going to have to wait another year.

Even though I know it's just concept art, the SDMC looks huge. And I'd imagine they'd have to bring in a whole bunch of dirt to bury the show building for grass and tree placements. Or would they just angle the tops and bring in sod?

My assumption, with no insider info at all, is that they will try to finish the exterior of the SDMC so that the scenery will be sans walls, but will still be working on the show sets within the hills and maybe put the track in place over night little by little. They'll set up a meet & greet by Snow White's cottage but the ride will not be open because "The Seven Dwarfs are hard at work mining for this attraction! Take your adventure through the mines in Spring 2014!" or whatever clever sign they decide to post.

I'll be frustrated if it takes them that long to finish everything, but I guess in the end it is their loss because I probably would have gone multiple times between late 2012 and late 2014, but instead I'll probably just go once when everything is completed.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking as well.
With that being said, I really feel for the laborers! It would have to be a MAJOR pain in the a$$ to build a roller coaster mostly inside a building AFTER you've built the building, as opposed to building the coaster, then the shell around it...

It is kinda crazy to think that if a child was born the day of the 1st official announcement (September of 2009), they will be almost 5 years old when its all done (March 2014)... Which in the case of my 5 year old twin girls means that in some ways they are already outgrowing their love of all things princess...:drevil:

This is what happens when the parks wait so long to do things, in other words, become reactionary.

That being said, I am glad the Dwarfs mine coaster is supposedly going to take awhile. Typically anyway the more work that goes into something the better potential it has. I don't want something or anything rushed. As Lee pointed out with how quick Circusland is going to reopen don't expect much out of it. We have not even seen anything of Dwarf's mine train go verticle yet so it only makes sense that a decent custom ride take that long.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter took around three years after its initial announcement.

It's going to be tough but, it looks like this trip in May 11' I won't be returning till late 2013 or even spring 2014.

I am in the same boat - I just went in December 2010 and won't be going back until end of 2012 - possibly November if TLM progresses to the point that it looks like it will be open. After the freeze of this past December, I don't think I would schedule another December trip. I may need to wait until Spring 2013, which makes me really sad!

I have a hard time believing that all of this will really take 3 more years to complete. Now, I know how contractors can be with schedules, but could the pace have anything to do with the budget?

Yes.
Tha phases are paid for with the budgets allocated for different fiscal years, not with one lump sum.
Plus, there are logistical issues involved.

it really is a shame they didn't start this project sooner. The thing could have been done by this summer had they started two or three years ago, once they knew of the Boy Wizard down the road. By the time it's done, I may no longer live here...in which case I will have to visit the closest Disney resort to where I live, and I have a feeling it wont be WDW.

In a word, lame.

So here's what we have basically;

Summer 2012 - Circusland, Double Dumbo, Princess Photo Op
Christmas 2012 - Little Mermaid ride and Beauty & The Beast Restaurant n' Shopping Complex
Spring 2014 - Seven Dwarves Mine Coaster

Why does it seem kind of underwhelming when the opening's are dragged out over a period of two years? Or is that just me?

Because it is underwhelming.

The FLE would have been way more exciting if they opened the whole thing at once. I know it has been compared to HKDL's expansion, in phases, but look at how they are opening an ENTIRE NEW LAND each year! Our expansion is nice, but something that could have, and in my opinion, should have been something planned to open all at once.

DCA releases of The Little Mermaid (as early as May this year) are quite a bit ahead of the Cars' rides (next year planned). In addition, would we rather have meet and greets or patiently wait for a roller coaster that will nicely complete Fantasyland? We get the taste of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid first and the SDMC will act as dessert to bring us back in 2014.

I don't think it compares to the DCA rollout, as Radiator Springs is way on the other side of the park from the Little Mermaid ride. The SDMC will be smack in the middle of New Fantasyland, and it will be hard for the whole area to feel complete until it opens. The sooner they can have the main outdoor elements done, the better, though. I just think it will rob the whole area of that "grand opening" it deserves if there is a huge construction pile in the middle of it for over a year.

2014!? LMAO, wow so there's going to be construction going on for the next three years right in the middle of FL? Sad...

Ya Disneyland was built in 365 days! The mine coaster is going to take over 1,000 days?! Really? This ride better blow everyone away!
