Flamingo Crossings

Is the whole Flamingo Crossings development dead? Or just dead for now? In the last 12 months I know some really basic sight work was taking place, but rumors say that has stopped. I have not been to WDW for 13 months now and won’t be back until May. So I’m just curious.

Personally, I hope Flamingo Crossings remains the grassy field at a highway exit that it currently is for many, many years to come!

From what I remember it is on hold or at best proceeding at a snails pace. I am 99% sure that the Flamingo Crossings development will happen it will just happen later than expected.

The site is still being worked on. We received some pictures yesterday (they should be up on the main site later today). They are currently putting in roads, traffic signal posts, and the work has moved into a wooded area beyond the current cleared area.

Yep as mentioned above, work is still going on this daily, and I dont believe has ever stopped.

Aside from roadwork, it looks like they've barely even started. Has any construction begun on any buildings? When was this originally scheduled to open?

When you consider how Disney pulled the plug on a well-advanced project like Pop Century Phase 2 for an economic downturn, it's difficult for me to believe Flamingo Crossings will move forward full speed ahead right now in the midst of a serious worldwide recession.

Personally I'm cool with that... there is so much shopping and dining around WDW already, I'm having a difficult time picturing what will be so special about this. (But I'll admit Disney has surprised me before.)

Exactly, looks like they are just moving dirt around to keep the buikding permits with the county.
Site prep can look like that as sometimes you simply have to leave stuff alone and wait for nature to take its course. But then again I do not think that they are working on FC at breakneck speed either.

There were some filings with the county a couple weeks ago that were for basic infrastructure/utility work along the roadways within FC. Nothing beyond that, though.

Since I`ve only been through the area once, can someone give specifics on the new road and where that photo was taken from (an overpass I assume) - is it looking west of the toll road?

Exactly. Looking west at the end of western way. It's an area that feels off Disney property because the road goes under the overpass. It is a rather isolated area that recently was mostly orange groves.

They have been moving dirt around for quite awile becaust they are building from scratch. Sewer, water, electric and communications all have to be installed new.

There is nothing at all going on except for moving piles of dirt, removing trees and installing basic infrastructure.

Disney hasn't signed a single -- NOT ONE -- tenant. And with the economy so dire, if they had you'd have heard about it.

They are doing all the basic site prep, so that if/when they decide to proceed with building something/anything on the site they can do so immediately.

I wouldn't be expecting much for a while ...

Perfect time for Disney to go with a "Plan B". Great area for a Disney designed resort that caters to young couples with no kids or parents who want to get away from their kids for a break. And also retiress. I bet it would be very popular.

I still laugh when Flamingo Crossings was announced and friends were telling me it was going to be another Downtown Disney....I was like no...its going to be another Crossroads. I hate seeing Disney give up land, like Crossroads and Four Seasons and Celebration.
