Flame Tree Barbecue closing for extensive remodel at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Visited Animal Kingdom yesterday, and the walls were down around Flame Tree. Cast Member there said it is expected to open on Tuesday (June 30th). Also got a look at the new menu boards posted. Biggest change is the Smoked Chicken Salad is gone, and a new Caribbean Jerk Salad is in its place. They've also added a Watermelon Salad to the menu. Everything else is basically the same as the old menu; the pork sandwich price increased by $1.

Also worth mentioning is all of the Flame Tree items that were available at the kiosks nearby are gone already, with the exception of the Chicken & Ribs combo. I can't imagine we were the only visitors this weekend who were a little bummed about that.

I give Disney grief for a lot of things but one thing I think they're really doing well on recently is theme park quick service food.

Compare that delicious looking Flame Tree menu board to peoples' expectations of theme park food - burgers, fries, nuggets and hot dogs... night and day.

Maybe I'm just hungry! :hungry:

Is the seating area by the water going to be the same, or have pics from Rivers of Light construction shown some work has been done over there?

New menu items are always good to see since some people like to eat food my food eats.

But the new shaded areas are great so far. The feel and ambiance is much greater now. The overall thematic presentation is a more inviting and mature experience. One of DAKS biggest issues (to me) was lack of overall shade and cool areas the escape the humid foliage that dominates the park.

My son just visited FTB over our trip this last week. He has always been their biggest fan for the ribs they make, but was very disappointed in them, stating the seemed to have a different seasoning than usual (meaning different than in summers past). He has dropped FTB from his favorites list. Has their recipe changed? Are they also doing the dry rub bit?
