we were there May 25-June 3. didnt notice the roof tiles etc at iasm so maybe they did do some updates...the first day we were at MK the whole place smelled of fresh paint and there were signs everywhere...."Caution WET PAINT" so they have been busy painting the place up.

our visits to Buzz we didnt notice the need of paint...but we broke down several times and our laser guns would randomly change scores from 500-593,700 we adults thought it was funny, the kids fought though over who actually "won" you know how serious those things can be to the 5-8 year old age group LOL~

My gun on Buzz was in pretty bad shape during my last visit on Memorial Day weekend. It really needed some paint, badly. I couldn't even make out the little logos on the side of the gun. Not only that, but the laser would only fire half of the time. I test fired it into my hand (and it scored 25,000 once too, I've found my new "cheat") at least ten times, and I only had the infrared beam fire 4 times. Needless to say, my score sucked. :(

Sadly, for maintenance issues, WDW seldom ever takes actions when it's a guest complaint for an issue that isn't a liability.

Heck, you're lucky if they take action if there is a liability. Rob, does Universal have a similar policy (not that they need it anymore, I've noticed that maintenance at Universal has been on the upswing dramatically this year), or do they just let the paint peel until someone with a brush and a can finds it?

they have an even better policy. 3 teams of painters (1 for USF, 1 for IOA, and 1 for Citywalk) go in EVERY night after the guests have left, and then do as much touchup every night as they can. Obviously, they can't get everything in one night, but that is definitely a better policy than Disney has right now.

I bet its employees from universal trying to give disney a bad rep, they go in with like ice picks and stuff and destroy the equiptment.

Cool. I remember Universal bragging about it during a Travel Channel special, but I seriously thought it was more of a gimmick than reality (too used to it from Disney). That's nice to know they really have those standards. Come to think of it, I didn't notice any issues with faded or peeling paint at all in UO. In fact, I didn't notice *any* disrepair except for some kind of rubber framing being peeled in the Spiderman queue. But then again, I saw the do it (and reported him), so that doesn't really count.

No wonder Sherman Williams loves to sponsor Universal Orlando.

Yeah, it is. I even saw one spit on Paul Pressler's stone in front of the Magic Kingdom. You've uncovered a conspiracy!

every day when I go to work there, at around 8am, I see flocks of painters going home.. so they're doing something there.

seriously.. most Universal Employees like Disney.. they just would rather not work there. And the few that do hate Disney, would rather boycott it than vandalize it.

I know, I was just making another joke out of the "conspiracy theory."

So, with Mr. Gault declaring all out war on Disney's market share, would you say he likes Disney or does he fall into the "boycott" crowd? ;)

It is really a shame that Mr. Gault isn't in Paul Pressler's position now.

Sigh... On a completely unrelated note, the Redwings just scored another goal against the Hurricanes. I'm feeling bitter right now.

I know Bob... and I know he has an AP... and he does like the Disney parks, but is taking full advantage of Disney's quickly declining standards, by raising the bar at Universal for guest service and show.

That's cool. Some of the things I've seen on the net have made out Bob to be the total opposite. He's definitely one of the best people in the industry today to come along in quite a while. To turn Universal Orlando around so quickly like he has this year, that takes some skills (especially at a time when Vivendi is a total financial disaster of a company, how he got the cash infusion for the "little things" is beyond me). You would almost think OLC bought the resort out.

...last year, we complained at Town Hall about the laser guns either not working or totally out of alignment that challenged even an expert shot like me...

...one hint for ya the next time, if the guns don't work, tell the CM at the end of the ride and he/she will let you ride again in another car and they cover the defective gun...maybe they'll get the hint if a lot of the guns are covered over....

...about Universal...nothing like stiff competition to motivate Disney...I STILL believe that the Animal Kingdom was originally conceived to stick Busch Gardens and to keep the dollars on Disney property....we haven't been to Busch Gardens since they opened AK cuz, frankly, one zoo per trip is enuf for me. :animwink:

Animal Kingdom was designed to be a DIRECT competitor to Busch Gardens. Disney can claim that it was "for the love of the animals" all they want to, but the reality is that BGT was and still is a successful park, and Disney wanted in on some of the action. Not surprisingly, the result if just like how MGM became a success: a park that is a mere shadow of the original, but has higher attendance simply because it is piggybacking on the park hoppers from the MK and Epcot. Fortunately, Universal is changing that. One can only hope that Busch soon will too (and God they have some work to do, believe it or not, management there is actually WORSE than Disney!), and maybe when the competition is whooping some MGM and AK Disney will become motivated to be #1 again.

disney will never not be number 1...disney is still the reason most tourists come to Orlando...however, competition is good. Busch does not present too much competition because Busch is in a different type of market...pretty much the same market as Islands of Adventure...and as we all know, thrill parks will never beat disney. Disney wasn't copying Busch. If anything, Busch has been trying to copy disney. Case in point, that disaster of an attraction Rhino Rally...Universal is the only place I know of that has even come close to matching disney in certain areas. Keep in mind MGM was not a response to Universal Studios...MGM was in the works before Universal and MGM also opened first...

*sigh* I have to agree. I can't tell you how many times us drivers have written problems with busses into the maintenance logs, and no one ever fixes them. Not because of "Parts on order" or whatnot... they just don't think that certain problems are worth wasting thier "valuable" time over. (I always thought that's what maintenance was for... and while they might think a wiper blade is a little thing... it's a HUGE thing when it's downpouring, and the wiper just shmears the window...) And it's not just little things, too... there are many "big" items that I've seen go without repair... and I personally refuse to drive a bus that has bad brakes, and has had "Brakes need repair..." or "Horrible brakes... cannot stop like I should be able to" written in the log for the past 2 weeks. Things like this are unacceptable. The problem should have been addressed that first day.

I dunno... do I hold Disney to a standard that I've set too high? I don't think so. I don't expect Disney to be Perfect... but I expect them to be as gosh darned close to Perfect as they can get. Disney is supposed to SET the industry standards, not lower them. Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency are our four basic principles... These are what made Disney so great...
