First WDW trip coming up,? about backpacks.

Headed to WDW for my first trip EVER with DH and DD (age 4).:sohappy:Love the site, it's so helpful and organized. Quick burning question though. What do ppl do with their backpacks when they go on rides where you can't bring them on with you? My DD just asked me this and I realized I don't have an answer. It doesn't make any sense to keep putting in and taking out bags of locker space (if they even have that). Is there a place where ppl can dump their bags while on the ride without someone walking away with it? Or do I just plan on doing the bag swap with my DH? May be a dumb question but I obviously have no idea what to expect there. Thanks in advance. I can't wait to get there!

i can't really think of any particular ride where I couldn't bring my backpack...i guess that all depends also on one's body type and the ride they were going on-when i was pregnant with my son, i did find the backpack bulky at times. some of the rides have little net pouches where you can put some of your belongings too. there is only a couple of rides that i can think of that you really couldn't, or wouldn't want to take your stuff with you...kali river rapids, splash mountain, and probably rock'n rollercoaster.
hope this helps! welcome to the boards and I hope you have a fantastic first trip!!!!!

Hi! First of all.....Congrats on your first trip!!!:sohappy: And Welcome to the boards!
At least one of us has carried a backpack every trip to WDW and we ride every ride a kazillion times. We have never had to store our backpack. In the rides that make it more difficult to store (RnRC, Space Mountain) we simply put the backpack in the floor of the ride and hook each strap around each ankle. I know it sounds like a hassle but it is much easier than running back and forth to the lockers. It has never been a problem for us.:D

disneyshe,

that is a really clever idea to just hook the straps around your ankles!! it seems so obvious, but of course dum-dum me just never thought of it:brick:.

I wish I could take credit for this idea:lookaroun but it was actually my DS (4 at the time) who suggested it :ROFLOL: I was trying to figure out what to do and and he's like "Look Mom... just do this"

just a heads up .... you'll need to have your backpack searched when you enter each park .... a good suggestion is to have all zippered pockets open .... some security guards do a quick check, some really dig around in your bag ... have a great trip, and as a former Cape Cod resident ... GO SOX !!!!!!! :ROFLOL:

Another good idea is to get one of the single sling type backpacks that goes across your chest so when you ride just sling it around to your front so you can sit back. This is what I carry and it works well for me. Have fun on your trip!

You can bring your backpack onto the rides only if you're not able to hold on to them. Otherwise you may either leave them on the side, or put your backpack in a locker. DH and I always bring our backpacks. Makes things a bit easier.

Backpacks and WDW go hand in hand! Especially to hold your fancy stuff like video or digital cameras. And water bottles! If I could suggest anything it would be water bottles, which you can just re-fill around the parks. But there isn't a ride that wont let you take your back pack. Oh..Sun screen too. :animwink:

I don't think that you will have a problem but they do have lockers if you need one. Personally, I use a nerdy pack to put all of my things in. My children are older now so I don't have much to keep up with and the pack works well for money & tickets and any small items that I may need.

This is the ONLY place I would ever use a pack at.:ROFLOL:

I always carry a back pack since I have asthma and need to carry my inhaler. I am a larger person and have never had trouble taking it on rides. The key is to keep it to the barest essentials and keep anything else in a locker. I have gotten pretty good at the hooking the straps around the ankle trick as I get on and unhooking as I get off! The easiest to use are one with skinny straps. Backpacks are also handy to stick hats and glasses into on rides that you wouldn't want to be wearing them on!

Just a note, my mother's cell phone fell out of her pocket at the start of the Rock 'n Rollercoaster and fell to the floor of the car. She was sure it was gone, but when they got to the end, the phone was still there in the bottom of the car.:)

Have a great time on your first visit!

Welcome aboard

The only rides that I know that won't allow backpacks are Kraken at SeaWorld and Hulk at IOA.
Kraken lets you store the bags at the exit (you just hope that no one else collects it as you ride) - there are also lockers (I believe).
Hulk you have to stow your bag in a locker.

I have never had a problem at WDW with rides and backpacks. Enjoy your first trip

I will probably be the one who cautions you the most on this. I wouldn't leave anything you expect to have when you get off a ride out in the open or hidden somewhere. My son was a lifeguard at one of the parks. He has had his expensive sandals stolen off the tower seat while he was in the water doing a rescue. This week when he went in to dive for someone's lost article, his sunglasses that he put in his pack were stolen. You just can't trust people anywhere any more. They also have had a tourist come up to her locker and confront the teen that was taking her camera, towel, and everything in the locker before. Teen of course was arrested but then tourist refused to press charges. She did spend time with teen and told him exactly what she thought of his actions.

Personally I have never figured out what people bring in their backpacks. We go as light as we can. Back packs are heavy and hot to carry around.
As my husband and kids say" that's what cargo shorts are for" The velcro flaps keep your sunglasses, wallets, camera. and cell phones safe when on the coasters.

I wear a stupid pack too! lol I hate it though. I still had a 3 year old with me on the last trip so we had a stroller (a small one with a basket) where our backpack was kept.

My sister used a small pack from our school and had no problems with it on rides.

Enjoy your trip!

I do that too...except I wrap it actually around my thigh. And I don't bring a full backpack with me. Instead I opt for those backpack purse things. Something that looks like this:

That way, I can carry what I need easily, but don't have to carry around something that's big and bulky.

Just my two cents - since there are two of you - each of you carry a smaller pack rather that one of you being burdened with one bulky one. DD and I did this on our last trip - she had a drawstring type with the video camera and her small stuff, and I had a small regular backpack with the regular camera and my essentials.....was able to take them on every ride - Space Mountain seems to have to smallest cargo net, though.
