First ride for child's first visit

I've changed my mind.
The first rides the child should be riding in each park should have something to do with that park itself...
Set the stage for what it is about...
  1. Magic Kingdom - Mickey's PhilharMagic
  2. Epcot - Spaceship Earth
  3. Hollywood Studios - Great Movie Ride
  4. Animal Kingdom - Kilimanjaro Safaris

Depends on your kid I guess. My 4 year olds favorite ride was test track. He LOVED the stunt show at HS. Also rode ToT twice. But seems like tomorrow land speedway was requested a lot during our trip.

My first ride was Pirates. Actually, I think my sister's first ride was Pirates also! :)

Personally, for my child's first ride, I would do something like Peter Pan's Flight or Small World or Dumbo. What is the childs favorite character? Maybe an attraction with their favorite character might a good way to kick off the trip :)

If POTC were my first ride, I probably wouldn't have gone back haha. I was terrified of everything as a child. My mom still kids me about screaming and running away from the witch from Snow White..

I was only 6 months old so I really didn't have the slightest clue what was going on. But I think if I were a little older, maybe 2 and younger than like 6, I might have been traumatized.

This is a great thread! I never really thought about it before.
We are doing Epcot our first day, so I think after hearing others tips, we will do The Seas with Nemo first!

If your kids are tall enough Goofy's Barnstormer to get them warmed up, if not tall enough head to classic Dumbo. If the lines too long go to The Magic Carpets it is usually a shorter wait.

Are your children scared of the dark? If not, ride Spaceship Earth the first day...

Sheesh. I feel so embarrassed -- the first thing we took them on was the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse in the Magic Kingdom! The idea was to start with the less-thrilling things as we arrived mid-afternoon, and then work our way up to Splash, Big Thunder, etc. by the end of our first day.

If I was doing it over again and trying to start with a great introduction-to-Disney-World attraction, I'd have chosen Pirates of the Caribbean. (I also really like the suggestion by the previous poster who said the Walt Disney World Railroad!) First rides at other parks were: Soarin' at Epcot (but Spaceship Earth would have been more appropriate), Toy Story Midway Mania at Hollywood Studios (but The Great Movie Ride would have been better if we weren't so focused on hitting headliners first), and Dinosaur! at the Animal Kingdom (again, were we going for the best introductory ride and not the closest headliner, it would have been Kilimanjaro Safaris.)

@Wikkler, he's almost 5. I'd like to try Spaceship Earth but I don't think I'll have that be the first thing.
I don't think he's too afraid of the dark, but still unsure how he'd do with it!

I love this thread, because my wife and I had the exact conversation two years ago when we brought our son for the first time. (he was 21/2 at the time) We were going to take him on Dumbo first, but once we walk around the castle and he saw the Carousel, that ended up being his first ride.

What ever ride you "decide" remember the trip is for them and let them be part of creating the memories. Let them decide what to do first, I promise they will have wonderful memories either way.
