well Mr Harry Potter himself says he didn't shoot anything new for the HP expansion... puts a nail in that one :) Except for those hoping for existing video footage :)

Interesting since the article from MTV quotes Alan Gilmore art director for the ride:

“They’ll be there! It’s quite exciting,” Alan Gilmore, the art director for both the rides and the films told us over the phone. “They’re regrouping for one last adventure.”

And this isn’t just reusing footage from previous films, either. For the ride — which opens as a part of the new The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley area in Universal Orlando — all new scenes were filmed, to be played while riders explore Gringotts Bank.

“It’s all new, it’s a brand new film,” Gilmore continued, “and it’s absolutely film quality, involving the films team, a merging of the film team and the Universal production team.”

Is the dragon at the entrance of Gringotts an animatronic as well, or is it static? Also, is the actual ride part going to have any animatronic elements, or just the queue?

Also I was reading a thread on Orlando United's Universal forum and someone (with an "insider" banner beside their name) said they were having some major issues with it. Don't know what to think of that.

Looks like I was right for a change. I am betting that Ron, Bellatrix, and other minor characters returned for the ride, while Harry and Hermoine are reused footage. I love that Universal is claiming that they reunited for the attraction, when it is clearly BS.

I know nothing about that. They may very well be using existing footage that we’d already filmed for the movies, but I have had no calls or involvement in that. A while ago they asked me to do more stuff for the theme park, and that was my moment to try and draw a line because that theme park is going to keep expanding, and keep going to more countries, and there’s going to come a point where I’m going to be 30 years old, and if I was still doing that then, that would be a huge problem.”

I believe your contention was that Harry Potter would not appear in the ride, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Whether it's CGI footage, reused material from Deathly Hallows, or unused takes filmed at the same time as the last film, it seems Harry Potter appears in the ride.

So don't go changing your tune this late into the game. We know how fond you are of repeating yourself.

You were half right. You were adamant that he wasn't in the ride at all, but it appears he is, but it appears that he didn't film new footage. Still not sure why the artistic director for the ride, who was involved in the filming, claimed that he was there.

I didn't originally know that they based the ride off of the exact scene in the 8th Potter movie. I am thinking they are using reworked movie footage or deleted scenes. I'm guessing that Harry and Hermoine will be minor characters in the ride(as will Voldemort). Ron and Bellatrix will be driving the action.

Using footage from the film would make sense. If you parse Alan Gilmore's words from the MTV article carefully they could be interpreted to mean that the characters are all reuniting, but not necessarily all the actors. Either way it still sounds like this is going to be an amazing ride.,

and what lesson have we learned?

Don't tout your thoughts as facts.. and don't assume you know all the specifics just because you've read something talking about the topic :) People say things with double meanings all the time, even if unintentionally, that can be misconstrued. It's best to share what we know (sourced) and assume we don't know, rather than we do :)

Now that I look at it again, it implies they used reused footage from the film, and filmed new scenes as well:
