I see the need for this restaurant but isn't it going to be competing directly with stk? Or maybe stk will be not casual at all where this is a mix...
It's a good point. I think maybe STK will be more of an adult specific, trendy kinda vibe. Maybe more sophisticated. They could also offer more varied cuts of meat. Boathouse has a pretty impressive steak menu, but there are definitely more high end types of steak missing.

The only thing low end at WDW lately is the rides or lack of. Why did they destroy Pleasure Island for this? Maybe it is me but the prices have been rising and service has been lacking the last 10 years.
So I guess you don't agree that Disney has been Walmarting the resort?

$ Wow $ those side dish prices! $21 side of asparagus. eech.

$17 for mac n' cheese
$21 for chowder?!?!?!

Can't wait for the Hangar's menu to come out.....

The menus had a few prices reversed. The $21 were both actually only $12. Yes, I said only. For a shared side, that isn't a bad price at all. Oh, and the mac cheese is a Shrimp and Andouille Mac N Cheese, so $17 is not out of line. Again, it will be huge and meant to be shared amongst 3-4 people.

Wow, that makes no sense. Why would you hope it fails? There needs to be offerings for all levels of socioeconomic status. Some people will eat at Earl of Sandwich, some at The Boathouse, most will enjoy the experience. I hope it is wildly successfully, both as a future customer and Disney shareholder. I can eat here without ordering the most expensive items, same as California Grill, Yatchmans, Shula's, and many others, enjoy the experience and surroundings and never hope the place fails. And by the way, I'll probably choose Earl over The Boathouse, but certainly don't hope they close the place down.
Not sure you thought that one through.
Yes I do hope it fails and they switch to a menu that has Reasonable prices. Why would I want to eat at Earl of Sandwich at WDW when I can eat at one on a I95 rest area. Why can't they build Themed locations that working people can afford. We take more trips to Universal Studios because of the decline at WDW. The only new things built lately are Timeshares and High End restaurants. WDW is not Las Vegas it is a family resort.

So please tell us what YOU consider to be reasonable prices? I consider the Boathouse prices to be perfectly reasonable for what it offers. So what are you looking for?

I do not know what Walmarting is I have never been to one. Can you please explain what you are talking about.
There are several members of these forums that claim that Disney is "Walmarting" WDW by only offering lower priced and lower themed experiences, instead of the more highly themed experiences of yesteryear. It is also claimed that WDW only has the same merchandise at every location, similar to a Walmart. Not nearly as true lately as it has been, but it could be better. Most people associate the "Walmart" crowd with low brow people wearing wife beaters and sweats to do their shopping.

Don't feed the troll. Fortunately he or she is saying the primarily go to Universal. I for one am glad Disney hasn't added a Golden Corral to Disney Springs (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'll take a better quality restaurant and pay for it any day over average food).

I was think something like Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville or Bob Marley's at USO. They are Themed and do not break the bank. Time will tell if Downtown Disney can transform to a High end mall. I liked it better when Pleasure Island was there.

Well, you already have Bongo's, Raglan Road, House of Blues, Fulton's, Paradiso 37, Planet Hollywood, Portobello, Rainforest Cafe, Splitsville, T-Rex, and Wolfgang Puck's Grand Cafe. That's 11 so far. How many more do you need? Oh that's right. You're one of the Universal guys who thinks everything that Disney does is stupid or sucks. Got it.

How dare you call me a troll are you the WDW police. If I have a different view I am wrong? Over the years I have visited WDW over 40 times and yes I like USO also. On this message board it seems if you are in middle America and work hard you are not wanted.

Not true, but you posted that you wanted a new venue at WDW to fail, simply because you didn't like the prices. You then stated you wanted something more along the lines of 2 offerings at USO. I pointed out that DS already has 11 similar offerings. Why can't those of us who can afford it and would like to eat at an upscale place have ours as well? What other "upscale" place at DS are we supposed to eat at?

Oh, and for the record, we have eaten at pretty much every one of those 11 restaurants, and look forward to trying something new at the Boathouse.

Let's get one thing clear here. This place is not a high end restaurant. If it was they wouldn't have boats in the middle of the place. It has an identity issue and may fail because of it. With stk coming it will show people what high end really is there. I don't see this surviving because there are only so many people looking for this.

My experience with STK in LA & Vegas is that it is very fancy/trendy with a focus on steaks (per the name). It's almost a club/bar like atmosphere geared towards the 20-40 crowd (not that anyone out side that range doesn't enjoy). They are also open until 11pm or later. From what I've seen of The Boathouse, it's a bit more casual, a bit more family friendly. It probably has a wider appeal, in terms of décor. I love STK, but I was surprised to see that it was coming to DTD. I think it's very different than anything else there now, which is probably a good thing. I see it being popular for folks traveling without kids and locals.

Most people in middle America who work hard do not wish for the failure of other people or establishments. They are smart enough to realize the success of individuals is good for the whole society. I would say yes, wishing for failure is wrong.
