First look at AbracadaBar

A little OT but does anyone have any insight as to how Flying Fish is coming along? I know the official word is closed through November but I've heard talk of possibly earlier. Just wondering if anyone has seen anything going on that would point anywhere in that timeline?

I think that I have read that it has been moved up from a November opening to an August opening.

You have to request the popcorn? The one video I watched said it came with the drinks.

The first night we weren't offered any, leading me to believe you had to request it. Tonight it was offered to us on our second round of drinks.

August, per the sign in AbracadaBar

The popcorn mix looks good, though I'm actually surprised they don't offer anything else. I'm wondering if when the Flying Fish kitchen re-opens, whether they have a few more tapas/appetizer options.

Of course, it also could be that they'll replace the popcorn mix with nuts dumped out of a Costco sized jug (a la Mizner's) or get rid of them altogether. ;)

I would hope so. I, too, am surprised there is no food, but you're right, they can't really cook right now.

"Despite its backstory, don't expect live performers or extensive effects like those found atTrader Sam's Grog Grotto. Instead, think more Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar. Keep an eye on the posters around the room though, they are enchanted."

Had to laugh at this one. Give it an obvious theme that implies the possibility of live entertainment or something along the lines of Trader Sam's grog Grotto and then deliver a regular bar... So I'm wondering, if someone asks a bartender or server to show them a trick, will they eventually come up with a simple thing or two to avoid the awkwardness (either staff on their own or Disney in a moment of learning) or will that not be allowed?

Perhaps they'll offer to make your drink "disappear"? That might make bar-tending there extra fun ;)

Probably not, as the back story line goes all The Magicians vanished in one night. That said a close up magician doing card tricks and coin tricks would do wonders. Trader Sam's has it's effects and this bar could have its magician.

Dammit...this has so much potential! If Disney fails to follow through on such a great idea, and the outpouring of feedback from loyal regulars, I'm going to be very disappointed! Make it something special! Disney has hired on local street magicians for special events in the past....make the magic permanent! Add some performance to this wonderful decor! :)

If my husband and I are there when you are, you could meet us for a drink and he could do a couple of sleight of hand coin tricks, etc. ;)

Marie, you're welcome to join us, also.

This is a welcome addition to the Boardwalk. Although I've enjoyed my time at Jellyrolls, I have not enjoyed the steep cover charge. I booked a res at Flying Fish and I intend on heading to Abracadabar for some pre-dinner drinks beforehand
