The more photos I see of the expansion, the more I am impressed with it's size and scale. The progress seems to be very good considering the two buildings being constructed. But I'll bet in 6-8 months some will be wondering why they haven't opened it up yet because it looks "finished". Pushing dirt, pouring foundations, erecting steel and drying in a building are the quick parts...finishing one is when the time table slows down. And with Disney, it's all in the details.

These photos really are great, thanks Scott and keep'em coming.

yeah with disney focusing on the details it'll probably take twice as long inside. once everything outside is done its going to seem longer once the work begins inside. but i can't wait until its done!!!!

So, here is a questions for the insiders and others on something I have never noticed before. But if you look at the entrance to the BATB restaurant, on the left there are stairs leading up towards Beast's castle. There appears to be something there. Of course, I understand the model isn't 100%, but it has been quite accurate to the blueprint and the construction so far.

Just speculating, but I'm thinking it's just a staircase to add to the forced perspective. It's similar to the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall in Tokyo Disneyland. The effect actually works pretty well in person.

I just can't imagine those will be stairs to actually be USED... Getting an actual person close to the Beast's castle would make it look laughable.

Yeah, at first I thought it was just to assist in the forced perspective, but it looks like there is an entrance to something. It makes no sense, because I'm sure the laws dictate then there would need to be an elevator and what not. Just wondering if anyone knew of anything.

Is the BOG supposed to be two stories tall? If so those could be an alternate exit / fire exit. The item that has caught my eye just now is the angled area about half way between the main entrance and the top of those stairs but slightly above the top of the stairs. wish I knew how to doctor and post a picture of it.

I mean, that could be a possibility... But just knowing how they're going to try to "sell" the view of Beast's castle (from what they did in Tokyo), you just can't get anyone anywhere near the thing.

Here's a picture of the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall that I took a couple years ago, to see what I mean. The pic doesn't do it complete justice... But it shows the extreme use of perspective, and you can see how if a person were anywhere near the top of the building it would REALLY mess it up.

I think it has to do with the angle. Because when you look at it on google earth it looks so much bigger with the direct overhead angle.

I agree, this expansion/renovation is huge...obviously this didn't take long to do but you get the idea of it's size. I'd say the "expansion" portion is about 2/3 of this area with the "renovation" being the remaining 1/3. Either way, just put this area in perspective with the rest of the park and this is a large scale project.

exactly!!! thats why Disney won't build anything in the other 3 parks until a year after this is done.

The foundation I believe is the roof to the cafeteria or some room in the utildors.

stphnbogert,

If I remember correctly, the 'roof' that the OP mentioned looks to be the men's locker room area, or it COULD be the Mouseketeria. But from what I can see in the pic, I would have to go with the men's locker room! I used that entrance for quite awhile!

Are they working simultaneously on the interior and exterior, meaning the outside is finished while the inside is finished and the outside is themed while the inside is being themed?
