Fire Mountain

This is from another thread posted by Martin.

I couldn't get the original post itself to show up

A - The large Adventureland plot south of PotC
B - Small Adventureland plot near Swan Boat spur (originally for a larger Crystal Palace)
C - 20k plot. It really is this big.
D - The 1979 Tomorrowland expansion plot. It would involve moving the east lake, but they did this for Space Mountain in `73
E - Diamond Horseshoe saloon
F - Fantasyland Skyway
G - Tomorrowland Skyway
H - South East & West parking. See comment above.
I - Plot designated in 1969
J - Plot designated in 1969; probably for the Persian Monorail
K - What appears to be plot designated in 1969 (but never utilised)
L - Unused but undeveloped area; could also be said for land north east of here outside the berm.

well, like I said, that's pretty much all the official info. It was to be a roller coaster and an e-ticket ride. Thats it. In all the incarnations you can find any details you want, but at its core, it was not based on any Disney movie, just an original roller coaster. As for the Atlantis comment, the first drawings I was shown of the propsed attractions predate Atlantis by many years (1988). I can make up more details, but thats all I'd be doing. Sorry.

At least you admit it.

Where are the details?

Also, that land you are referring to is the following:
- Jungle Cruise
- Backstage access road
- Train tracks
- Monorail track and station
- Walkway toward Grand Floridian (- the least important)

Yeah, it wouldn't be going there.

There's certainly a plot there where something COULD go, but I don't think it would be very aesthetically pleasing if it were a freakin' mountain. And the train would have to go through it.

You'd be able to see it from everywhere on Main Street in that plot.

The only place where it could go is right next to the treehouse, between it and Crystal Palace, and thats not a big plot.

I can't see any way to get access behind Jungle Cruise without modifying the JC.

Let me attempt to clear this one up to the best of my ability...

At the time of its inception, Eisner asked for plans to a new E-Ticket attraction to go into the Magic Kingdom. Two teams of Imagineers were formed, each creating a new "mountain" to go into the same location. One team created what we have come to know as Fire Mountain. This attraction would be based around and inside of a volcano. The story details never really got out beyond the eruption scene, but most of us who have been given the story and concept art can tell you that many aspects of Fire Mountain made their way over into Tokyo DisneySeas' Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Now, I didn't forget the other team, just had to give some background on the main attraction there... The other team created what came to be known as Bald Mountain or Villain Mountain in its later years. Bald Mountain would be a flume ride, just like Splash Mountain but with a more sinister story. The main sequence of the attraction (the equivalent to Fire Mountain's eruption) was where you as the rider floated into the Disney villains' meeting location, alarming them and send you down off the side of Bald Mountain's "waterfall." I never saw any concept renderings though the description featured the chernabog (from Fantasia) lunging at you just before you took the plunge (much like the dinosaur coming out at you at the end of Dinosaur).

Both ideas were meant to go in the Fantasyland area on the 20,00 Leagues plot. Well, Eisner never really decided on a winner between the two ideas due to a massive budgeting problem caused by EuroDisney's recent monetary shortcomings. The ideas were shelved, but many of their aspects have been adapted for use in future Disney attractions.

And may I just add in that neither of these two attractions were ever planned for Animal Kingdom, Beastly Kindgom or such. One of these attractions has been taken off the shelf several times and expanded (conceptually) for further but so far non-tangible use...

No, it's a terrible spot. The more likely spot, closer to the tree, still takes out a large portion of backstage. Truth be told, there is room there for development. Just not huge freakin' development that would mess with all the areas around, block the parade route and ruin the view from everywhere else in that area of the park.

And that final scene sounds awesome.

Actually when I was on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, I was told that in 2001, they had planned a big e-ticket attraction for Adventureland to go in the place next to The Swiss family treehouse. Everything was almost set in stone for the attraction to be built. It was going to be The Indiana Jones Adventure, but after a bunch of budget cuts the money that was left over was only enough to build a small attraction for Adventureland, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. And so the story goes. :lookaroun

There seems to be a ride with similar aspects at a non-Disney theme park (whatever those are).
This is from google-

Volcano, The Blast Coaster, nicknamed Volcano, is the launched inverted roller coaster at Kings Dominion. It is one of the most popular rides there since its opening on August 3, 1998. It is a custom designed ride designed by Paramount Parks and famous roller coaster designer Werner Stengel. The ride was built by Intamin AG of Switzerland. At opening, the ride became the world's first LIM (Linear Induction Motor)-Launched Inverted coaster and to this day, remains to be the world's only full-circuit launched inverted coaster.
The mountain this ride is built in and around has existed since 1979. A number of attractions were set inside the mountain before Volcano existed.

I've been on this, there is no way it'd fit in the Magic Kingdom.

Also, the ride was better when it was Smurf Mountain :( :( :(

There is no reason to build a major e-ticket in a park that is currently the #1 attended theme park in the universe and is 6 million people ahead of the next WDW park.

Let's keep the updates and new attractions to the other 3 parks coming

I agree....to an extent.........While MGM seems to be the clear cut candidate who is in dire need of some TLC, EPCOT is struggling to make anything happen with WOL and Imagination Pavillion, and Animal Kingdom could use at least one more e ticket and/or a nighttime show in order to keep it open later...they have to protect their flagship and make sure it remains number 1. Without it, the other parks would dwindle, so I think it is important to constantly upkeep the MK and keep it fresh (Im waiting for the argument that the WDW MK crowd is composed of many first time visitors as opposed to DL), but regardless....a fire mountain would fit perfectly, and send Bald Mountain over to MGM either in place of GMR or if a gauty mountain in the center of your park is not feasible then catastrophe canyon from Backlot tour should suit it just fine.

Agreed, and in a perfect world I would love to add all of those attractions.

But when funds are limited, and you're working hard to expand globally, and you have to pick the next WDW park to drop down $100 M for an e-ticket attraction, you shouldn't pick the park that is on a steady increase in attendance, and as noted, is #1 in the world.

Which is why MK should be 4th in line at WDW, at least in my opinion

I just remembered there was Blue softserve ice cream, and it was fantastic.

K, I'm done being Nostalgic.

We had something very similar in the enchanted voyage at Kings Island. It was Hanna Barbera before they switched it to smurfs. It's no longer a water ride and the buidling now houses a scooby doo ride similar to Space Ranger Spin (with a much lower production value).

BTW, we still have the Blue Soft Serve at our park. It IS fantastic.
