Filthy ride vehicles...

First and foremost, I blame many of the guests that enter the Parks these days. Many have zero respect for Disney and their Standards and for anybody else or anywhere else for that matter. True, the cuts may have affected the cleanliness of the Parks somewhat, but the first step to creating that filth is the guest dropping waste anywhere they choose. Children may do this at times not knowing what is the right thing to do but it's the parents that are responsible in teaching the child correctly. This has become the norm at the Parks and it has been going on long before the cuts and we have photos to prove it.

Disney, from the time it opened in 1955, implemented the 30 step rule for locating their trash cans, offering the guests every opportunity to throw their waste away properly. But many people are simply disrespectful scum. We were at MK about a month ago, over by the entry sign to Storybook Circus. As most of you probably know, there are trash cans literally at the base of the supports to that sign. As we were exiting that area, we were passing by those trash cans and had to shift our path to allow some guests coming in to pass by. One of those guests had waste in her hand and we figured she was going to throw it out so we chose to provide that space. Well, she did discard it, but she just threw it down by the trash can. She made no attempt to put it in whatsoever. She was inches away. She was probably in her 30s so age had nothing to do with it either. These are the same people that you see throwing trash out of their cars, the ones that walk through the grocery store taking items and later deciding they don't want that chicken and then just drop it by the bread to rot, the ones that dump their McDonalds bags and other car waste in the parking lots, or leave their dirty diapers on the trams or on the bench in the airport. This list could go on and on.

IMO, Disney should be responsible to maybe wipe things down at night or keep the mildew from forming on rides that @theRIOT spoke about, but they really shouldn't be responsible to pick up after disrespectful guests. Yes, there will be times that things are dropped unknowingly but when people are sitting outside having their Hot Dog and napkins start to blow away, it should be the guests responsibility to at least make an attempt to chase down those napkins and discard them properly. Most will just sit there and do nothing! Again, they are the same people that do this wherever they go, not just Disney. It's also kind of cancerous. Using the napkin example above, if the guest just sits there, others will ignore and possibly ignore it as well if it happens to them. However, if the guest attempts to go after the napkins, often times, others will get up and help.

How true this is! I think when I was talking about "cutbacks" and it affecting the rides, I think in my mind I was picturing the worn-down/faded appearance of some of the ride vehicles, the chunks of foam from the lap bars, etc. I'm sure the food that collects in the rides is from that day's loading of riders. But isn't there usually a CM at the front of the lines who is asking how many is in your party for loading purposes?? Shouldn't they be the 1st line of "defense" against filthy-ride vehicles by enforcing the "no food on the rides" rule? It should be very simple, and be posted clearly, so all that needs to be said is, "sir/mam, you'll need to finish that or throw it in the can here before you can ride."

But I am in total agreement that people are PIGS! There is no pride in anything and these pigs are more than confident that some poor soul will pick up after their filth and feel perfectly at ease to discard whatever and wherever. It's sickening and now I think I'm more worked up than I was when I started reading this thread!!:mad::mad::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Well, it's not like they are getting on rides with a picnic basket. There are gigantic backpacks that probably contain a number of edible items that the CM's are not even aware of. Unless someone is waiting to board with a Hoagie in their hand it will get past them. The entitled nature of today's society means that they probably know that there is not supposed to be food on the rides, but, don't care. They paid a fortune to get in there and they are going to do what they damn well please. The first reaction is to think that the CM's are either short handed or unwilling to enforce the rules when the fact of the matter is if they had 10 CM's observing people boarding the same number would still be getting on the rides undetected. The only solution would be to check all the bags, but, can you imagine how long the lines would be then? It's no wonder that Disney feels that there is no need to throw money at some of this stuff, because it won't change anything.

Good point. I guess that then leads us to the sticky subject of whether outside food should be allowed in (that was a "fun" thread to read)

Which may be a reason that they have proposed that ban. Not the entire reason, but, one none the less. That, however, would be a small part of it. You buy packaged foods at Starbuck's etc., so not bringing it in from the outside will not really stop it.

In terms of food and litter this is down to the lack of respect & care of some quests. I have witnessed how much effort is put in by CMs to keep the parks clean. We have all seen the WDW big wigs walking around with their trusty litter pickers in hand. I have seen custodian CMs empty the same bins about 3 times in an hour and ride CMs removing empty crisp packets from ride vehicles as they enter the loading area. So budget cuts have nothing to do with it. It is purely to do with the lack of guest respect. There is no reason for an adult to be taking food onto a ride with them(they should be mature enough to wait)but I can understand a child being given a treat to occupy them whilst waiting for a ride which they then take onto the ride with them. However, any respectable parent would pick up any food or litter that their child drops or discards.

As for the tired looking ride vehicles I have faith WDW will phase in refurbs or new ones at some point.

We just returned from the MK tonight and as usual, there was trash left in a variety of places. The best one tonight though was over by the Casey Jr.s Splash N Soak Station where it appeared a family or two had been sitting right next to a trash can and what did they do...well, see for yourself. I took a shot from each side of the trash can since it was dark.

Night crews DO clean ride vehicles at night. The trash and food you see in the vehicles are usually from that day.

While at WDW there usually is a CM standing at the entrance to each attraction queue who tells guests to finish their food/drink before entering the line. But while I was at Disneyland this week I noticed many people bringing food into the queue with them. They also didn't have a CM at the front unless the attraction had FP.

I'm actually surprised that they never had a snack cart to sell food in the middle of some of the longer queues. Most of us Americans can't go for than 20 minutes without a churro and large coke anyways.

Just another scene from "Entitled America".
People seem to have lost all sense of decorum and personal responsibility.

something sticky and gross smeared all over the floor of the Pooh vehicle
Well that's Disney's fault. I did ask their employee if these were private stalls to pooh and she said yes and then when I got in I noticed maybe they also use it as a show but then at Rapunzel I waited for a show but nothing ever happened I just sat there for like 45 minutes so I thought well maybe this is the same thing and then I saw that screen with all that honey dripping which reminded me of those four chili doges I ate so then it just sorta all came squirting out.
