EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Eh all they did was go from live spiel to prerecorded, is the narration even that different?
SSE 82 -> 86's most drastic change was a new narrator, those are considered two separate incarnations even though the ride itself was minimally changed. Without the live guides you lose commentary on any crops that aren't grown there year round and on what greenhouse workers are up to if any are present while you're going through. You can't shoot quick questions at a prerecorded spiel like you can with a live guide either.

Also worth mentioning that considering you're not likely to have the same guide twice your experience could be slightly different on each ride. I'm not trying to say taking the guides away sucked the soul out of the ride like it would've for something like GMR, but I think it's valid to say they're different experiences.

While we're crunching numbers, I feel it's worth mentioning that JIIwF will become the longest running attraction in Future World's history in three short months. It will have had a lifespan longer than any other incarnation of anything else there ever has. I remember when people were complaining about how Ellen's Energy Adventure was the oldest thing there and how it was 21 years old at the time of its closure. JII 3 is gonna be 23 this year.

(The current record holder is the Lion King movie that used to play in The Land. It ran for just over 23 years, which is an almost sadder attraction to hold the record considering this is the park that used to have Horizons, JII, SSE '94, etc.)
I wanna try not to get off-topic too much but SSE '94 only being open until 2007 is a bit surprising to me. It could've easily operated into the early 2010s before it got to be outdated.

It could have still made it through today and not really been outdated, if only it had gotten some tweaks and changes instead of the rotten gutting it got and replaced with nothing. It has the joy of riding through an air duct for almost 20 years now. Inexcusable. (Im referring to the second half mainly)

Absolutely not.

Even though I don't remember it, I had family members who rode with me in 2006 and they all said the ride looked painfully out of date and corny, especially the descent scenes.

Honestly, looking back at videos, they were right.

And I am sure going backwards through a dark void with a 2000s-era jib-jab video in front of you has aged beautifully.

I never said it did. Both aged like milk in the Florida sun. The only thing the 2008 descent has going for it in my book is purely personal nostalgia since that's the SSE I know and remember.

I'd argue the most "timeless" descent was the 1986 version with the space station. I'd be a very happy individual if we could get a modern version of that and have space station girl visible again.

Iger seems to be gearing up to knock on the doors of creative department for some Figment shorts.

Could this be the start?...
It felt like his answer was basically saying no plans have been made to redo the ride. I feel like if there was something in the works he would have said it like when he brought up the DCA avatar land last year

Either the start of V4, or the start of "See Figment's around in other stuff! Time to replace the ride". I will not be shocked if it goes either way.

I literally can imagine Iger walking into imagineering and going "hey I was asked about figment again what can we do about him?" and the imaginers going "here's the last 25 years of ideas what's the budget?"

Also, Thought I had, with all the new frozen lands, what's the chance they update Frozen ride w the new AA's and replace the face screens for the new frozen movies? The ride is approaching ten years old soon.

This thread is about a revamped Figment ride.

The thread here below is for the possible Figment short, movie, or series...

I just see that as “we’ll do anything with him but fix the ride” unfortunately.
