EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Between Figment, the new buildings and their lack of imagination, and Guardians of The Galaxy, it's clear that EPCOT is really starting to feel kind of... sad. It doesn't feel the same even compared to 2005ish.

The biggest example is the Pixar Short Film Festival. Say what you will about Captain EO, but at the very least, it was something you couldn’t really see at home. You can see the Pixar shorts on Disney+. Why would I want to watch the same three shorts from opening? And they don't even rotate through different shorts throughout the year. It's the same three shorts every year!

Even the ImageWorks of 2002 (yes really), felt more alive than today's ImageWorks. Before Kodak pulled out, there was just much more to do; there was even a Kodak EasyShare Figment stage activity and it had unique animations and voice lines from Figment shown on screen. I'm not sure what it was about/how it worked but it seemed pretty cool. Unfortunately after Kodak left in 2010, most of the activities (including the EasyShare show) were removed, now it's just a really sad place. The only thing I sort of like there besides the meet-and-greet is the activity where you can make your own Figment, but even then, it's something you could just be able to do on the web. You essentially make a Figment OC and send it to your email. It's mildly amusing but nothing that great.
Yes the film festival is the biggest waste of space in all of Disney World

So the plan so far is:
* Get really large backpacks to be trendy fashion
* Convince Disney to follow the trend
* Wait for a Figment Loungefly XL
* Fill it with hammers
* Play “Toy Story Mania with hammers” on JIIWF
* ???
* New Ride

Seems flawless to me, and unironically more possible than them just changing the ride on their own 🥲

Existed. It would've existed.

Just another one of the EPCOT casualties caused by COVID. That, SSE, PLAY! and UK.

Brazil also depending who you ask.

I thank COVID for killing Play!, which I think was a complete waste of a pavilion and would have been a ghost town within 5 years.

Killing SSE may have been for the best too, since the concept art wasn't exactly inspiring.

Play pavilion yes spaceship earth no the inclusion of ip while not ideal likely wouldn’t have been bad enough to justify letting the ride rot in its current condition

I'd rather something in WoL at this point than a shell/crime scene.

I get that argument, but my feeling is Play! would have been so underwhelming/underutilized so quickly (it felt like it would have been outdated almost at opening) that it would have just been a waste of money that could have been spent elsewhere... and because they put something there, it would have stayed like that for 20 years.

It's possibly WoL sits empty for another 20 years, which would obviously be even worse, but I think there's at least more pressure to do something with that space when it's empty than there would be if it had something in it, even if what was in it offered almost nothing (see Imagination).

Honestly, almost everything killed by COVID at EPCOT was for the best. It’s just that the response with CommuniCore Hall and the central planter was just as bad. With CommuniCore, you have something that is more accessible to the average guest than the Festival Center would have been but less attractive/impressive. With the planter, you have gardens that are more symmetrical than what was planned but overstuffed with nonfunctional lights and devoid of water features. It’s really unfortunate that the cuts happened after the demolition, but alas.

I'm personally of the opinion that as of right now, it gets demo'd entirely after SSE and Imagination get their due since the previous maintenance on it didn't do much to fix the leaking issues it had and the shape of the building, especially with the attraction layout, does more to limit what they can put in there, than it could benefit ideas (see how PLAY! plans only had the hub area used, not Body Wars or Cranium Command's theater).

I don't WANT WoL demo'd, but I think Disney/urban explorers have gotten everything of note and I'd rather see something all new be built versus reuse a building that's been deuterating slowly since 2007.

I just don't see a way for WDI to fix 'the WoL problem' that isn't 'get the nearest bulldozer'. PLAY! would've been a band-aid on a problem but it'd be a cheap one that peels off within a day or two.

Monsters inc has a habit of wanting to destroy everything we as wdw fans hold dear, doesnt it?
I bet fans rioted over... [checks notes] Superstar Limo and.... Meet the World getting the boot.

I mean, I guess I can buy the latter.

From what I can see, the 'rumor' was just a hearsay rumor from back then from someone who's been banging the door coaster drum for a LONG time.

Nothing to get worked up about.

No
One way that they could be convinced the ride NEEDS to be redone is if the current one broke to a state of disrepair.

Unrelated, how many hammers do you think you could bring in a backpack to Epcot?
oh no I hope the ride doesn't spontaneously erupt in flames and triggers the automatic sprinkler system and destroys the Iago animatronic mechanics and Disney has to invest in the ride and might as well bring back the original enchanted tiki room.

Maybe I went a bit off topic.

Oh no. It’s very funny to me lol. Old rumors are very fun to look back at and laugh. Remember stitch replaced with wreck it Ralph? And the timekeeper was cool! >:[ (laugh floor)

I hear animatronic presidents are quite flammable this time of year.

I'll never not find it strange that there's an alternate version of the 2002 Figment ride.

This is from 2002 when the ride first opened, but other 2002 videos on YouTube of the ride show the ride virtually the exact same as it is today. It's so strange. The differences are subtle but still noticeable.
