Festival of the Lion King moving to Africa

it's probably a small delay like others have said... not a big deal.... however it remains true that this whole project has been one big delay

Has it? I'm not aware of any delays in the project.

Now, the project was prematurely announced, far in advance of when a typical project would be revealed to the public. So, it might appear to be taking far longer than it should and being "delayed". But from the start, the plans were to start construction in 2013 and it seems that is still possible depending on how significant the issue is with the FOLKT theater build in Africa.

it just seems odd to be starting in 2013 (when the year is half over already) and we've really received news on this land or concept art... just doesn't feel right to me I don't know

What "issue"??? The poster already stated the source of the "issue" which isn't anything but a scheduling change on a backstage road closure.

They could absolutely start construction by the end of the year if the plans are ready. They don't sound like they are.

Universal closed Jaws and started construction on Diagon Alley way before any announcement...

I would prefer this. Actually figure out what you are doing before the dog and pony show. That way we don't end up with more Hyperion Warf's.

I believe Disney has learned its lesson. Thus the boredom folks can look forward to at D23.

There's also no reason they couldn't start prep work on the southern end of the Avatar plot. There is a lot of land there that's *not* part of CMM that can be worked on even before CMM is removed.

I would venture to guess that they will mobilize all at once. Once the land movers come in they like to push around a lot of dirt.

I never thought about that! Hopefully they will start from there, then. But, don't you think they would wait until the new FotLK theater is completed so they can clear the entire area? Just a thought, as I have no idea how they plan to build AVATAR Land.

Yeah, it's cheaper and easier to do it all at once. If they were going to just place shrubbery over CMM then they might start on a ride building on the expansion pad now. But I gather that is not the plan. If significant construction is to take place on CMM, there is no reason to begin work elsewhere first. It all has to open at the same time.

True, but it is not always practical. When you have a blank canvas, doing it all at once is almost always the best option. However, when you have a section that you need to keep functioning for as long as possible you adjust the schedule and sometimes even the design to minimize downtime.

Okay, I'm too lazy to read back through all the 652 postings so I have two questions: 1. What is the proposed time for opening the new Lion King Show building? and 2. Is the show on hiatus/closed while this new building is being built? Thank you to all non-lazy posters for your answers.

So yet another factually dishonest tweet has everyone in an uproar.

More like what happens most on the internet... people see something real but misinterpret it.. or guess wrong on the reason or motives.

Having watched 'fan forums' discuss my own business... it's almost comical at times watching 'experts' give their analysis on the motivations behind certain changes. The full range of just wrong... to conspiracy.. etc. The sad thing was, is most of these 'fans' were in the business and they were so wrong about what was actually happening inside the company it made you shake your head on where on earth they were dreaming this stuff up. The funny parallel to the disney universe was how important those people thought they were too..

its very hard to cross from 'reporting factual observation' to reporting motivations or larger actions. Many should stop trying :)

1. No one has said AFAIK. It's a pretty simple building, though, so it's quite possible that the timeframe is in months.

2. The show is still running in the current building. It will be moved to the new bulding once that one is done. It has not been established whether there will be a gap between stopping in the old building and moving to the new one -- if they reuse stuff from the old building, there might be more of a gap. Plus, they may want to have some time to practice in the new building.

That's nothing compared to the animal exhibits Rohde wants to remove from around the Tree of Life. These have NOT been scheduled and may never happen; but he is walking through DAK with an entourage, pointing out what he wants to be removed, relocated, etc.—especially now that they've been testing nighttime lasers and lighting for about three months.

This would stink. Despite being seemingly dumbed down with commoner animals, or just often empty, getting rid of all those animals kills that who setup to the park. Instead you just walk through plants. Yippy. I do like seeing the animals when we visit.

Let's remove the animals from Animal Kingdom!!!!!!!
All we'll have left are Lion King, Nemo, Everest, Dinoland, and Kali!

I would hate to see the animals around the tree of life go as well, but I would be shocked if 10% of the people that go into AK even know they exist.

I asked the question about a new pathway for traffic as well as if anything else will be going in the area.

They did confirm that no changes would be happening to the show.
