:lookaroun i havent posted in a while but this has been bothering me and i wanted to git others opinion.i fill like disney would be better served by offering the discount tickets to more than just florida residents.the florida residents pass i understand but the annual passes and 3 day tics could be offered to others.i live 10 miles from the florida line and i am serving in the fla.national gaurd and i cant git a discount.i know this would create some problems but disney is a big company and can handle it.just wondering what other non floridians or floridians think let me know.:hammer

I think if they offered it to people "10 miles from from the Florida line" someone else living 20 miles away would complain and in no time it would be available to everyone, so what's the point? I'm sure there are lots of places that give only GA residents discounts.

However, I do think that all AP holders should be given the option of the monthly plan. I understand there are legal issues with that though.

I'm pretty sure the only reason Florida residents even get discount tickets is that it was part of the deal Disney made with Florida before WDW was developed.

If it were up to Disney, Fl residents would be paying full boat, too.

ummm - you realize, you CAN get an Annual Pass - there are no state restrictions. Sandy and I have had APs for a good 6 years.

Right, but I think they mean at the discounted rates that FL residents get them for.

Disney offers discounted rates to FL residents (and SoCal residents for Disneyland) in order to get them to visit more often and spend money. When you have a large group of people within a short distance, you need to give them incentives to want to come back. If prices were the same for FL residents as they are to people traveling in, they wouldn't go nearly as often and buy food and merchandise. It would be a similar situation to how most families go every few years (if that), and you don't want that when you can have people around the corner coming much more often.

If your military ID is for a Florida base you should be able to swing a Fl Resident discount. Your military discount should also be just as good if not better than the Fl resident discount.

Well put, I never thought of it that way, but probably true enough..

It makes sense to have the Florida resident discounts. The purpose of it is to encourage people who are with a day's drive to bring the kids for a weekend during the slow seasons. We can take a day or two and make it a long weekend. I buy seasonal passes for the family and we go a few times a year. The point is to get us into the parks so we can spend during their slow times.

Not trying to be rude...but our taxes down here helps to pay for the infrastructure (roads and such) that you travel on to and from WDW, etc... so I do not agree with you...sorry!

If you want the Florida rate...then move to Florida! We would love to Welcome you to our state!

I'm sure the tourisim dollars, and tax dollars, generated by WDW more than offsets the additional required infrastructure spending.

I understand the concept of the 3 day passes and trying to get locals to pop in for a visit. But, on the other hand, if a local gets an Annual Pass, they have an easier time "making it pay" by going multiple times.

Comming from New Jersey, I have a much harder time making an AP work out. In fact I have since dropped the passes the kids and I had. Now that we don't have them, we schedule one trip a year, if that. When I had AP's we would go twice a year, and I would sometimes get away for a long weekend at times. If WDW offered a discounted AP to me (aside from my DVC discount) I would be there more.

The fact that general public discounts for rooms are as good or better than AP discounts probably offsets the worth-while factor in a lot of folks buying APs. We maintain our residency in FL and could buy FL resident passes again but we've decided to let them go. 3 of our 4 are already expired. For several reasons we just don't feel the need to go back anytime in the foreseeable future.

To the OP, definitely look into your military status eligibility. They get 40% off hotels and special ticket prices that are really great.
