nice summary. ill have to bookmark this for others that might ask in the future what the history of SSE and 180/top.I doubt we will get anything in 180top. After being stuck up there for 10 minutes and then having to get evacuated, I could really see what was up there.
Even before the omnimovers stopped...the matrix tunnel...which uses the gutted-out space of the network tunnel, uses a very poor projection, and screen, and you can easily see all the light leaks, machinery, etc. I really hope this is addressed in the refurb.
The screens extend further out into 180top, causes light to leak in. We also can't enjoy the view of earth (which is still the lame 1994 projection)...our vehicles immediately rotate backwards, but thank God the man's voice is soft and gentle...but they couldn't use his voice to warn us about turning backwards in the matrix tunnel?
There were various proposals for 180top. Because there are so many little nooks and crannies and steps and doorways and walls up there...one concept was to have...if I remember correctly...to have an elaborate moon-base or moon-colony. We would be on the surface of the moon and would have moonrock all around is. How cool to time travel through a moon crater and past a moon-colony!
The other idea was to have a space station being worked on and built. The concept art for this is visible in the epcot 25th display in innoventions at the SSE display area.
We never got the moon-colony except for the cardboard cutouts of moonrock, and we never got the space station being constructed.....instead, we got a third proposal which was traveling through a space station...well this scene was heavily simplified and became the space station scene that lasted from 1982-1994.
The satelites and astronauts were removed, the wall panneling and lights removed and turned off, and the window with the girl in it just painted over in black and the ceiling remains but also painted in black.
Then in 1994 this scene becomes the random floating classroom scene, and not only had one floating newscreen but two newscreens and a lazer beam, mister and fan effect. All of that....pretty random.
So it was all removed in 2007....but the remnanets of the space station are still there, but with a random field of blue stars in space. The effect is cool, it really is, but after seeing such elaborate scenes and sets...to actually enter space....THE FUTURE.....it is nothing...except heading down and seeing a grid of random blue dots than one can't enjoy because the screen turns on.
I hope turning the screen off for the entire ride is an option. All I want to do is select my language and have the thing off. Wouldn't it be great if there was stuff to view in the descent and if they have a "don't participate in create your future ending" Then Dame Judi is giving us a narrated descent?
After all, the post show will have young and great minds featured on the rear screens, and people and places in the retro future project onto the other screens. The globe will have faces and places on the globe, and also a place where we people can view and send their video.
Why can't they set up a booth where people who decided not to create their ending on the ride, they can do it instead in the post show.
Of all the things that happened to SSE in 2007....I have to say I got goosebumps in the ascent tunnel.
The original 1982 star ceilings are still there...we enter the ascent tunnel...drift up past fields of stars..enter the photo recognition booth...our vehicles turn and head up into the sphere....the stars get less and less...the music fades away....it gets dark....mysterious...where here the roar of a mamouth....the struggle of men....FANTASTIC!
:ROFLOL::ROFLOL: Just having some fun with the Boston Fans! They are great fans!

Summer Magic with Haley Mills and Burl Ives. Love the movie, love the music. They play the music in the turnstile area of the MK. And they play the Ugly Bug Ball in Toon Town during MNSSHP.
:sohappy::sohappy:Oh thank you, I shall go check. Anyone know if that movie is on DVD yet?Osh Popham is the proprietor of the The Emporium--check out the entrance closest to the Main Street Barber Shop.

Hey Dawg, Perhaps the Cleveland Browns should (for once) concentrate their efforts on fielding a decent football team rather than ridiculous copywrite litigation :hammer:
IRON:ROFLOL:WOW.
NO.

You realize the Browns finished 10-6 this year and are one of the younger teams in the NFL, right?
And so it begins ...... Disney why would you do this! ...Curses!
Good. We can finally get the Living Seas back.
 -yet, there is a grain of truth to that! :lookaroun
Actually that gets me thinking about something I've always wondered: Can you imagine a world without WDW, or anything Disney for that matter. Like say Disney went bankrupt and had to close all the parks. Can you imagine seeing the ruins of WDW, just sitting there empty, rotting away year after year? :dazzle:
