Fear of a Ride?

My mom is scared of Soarin'. It's mostly because there is nothing under her feet and she's up in the air and she can see the ground below. I told her to just look ahead at the screen, but she got on and just before the ride started, she chickened out. It's everything she loves - it's California, the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge, etc. But she won't.
I was scared of Haunted Mansion for many, many years, even as an adult. The room is what gets me. A room full of people, it's an obvious elevator and it goes pitch black for a minute or two. My worst nightmare.

Actually, the streching room at HM at WDW is not an elevator. The walls are what is moving. At DL it IS an elevator, and you are moving, not the walls.

Not an elevator. The walls move up. It's just an illusion. And it only goes pitch black for about 10-15 seconds tops, though I guess if it scares you that much, could seem like longer? If you want to be a little away from people, stay closer to the walls. Ignore the "move to the center" directions... I always do. Also, when you enter the room, look for the panel with the little red light on it. It's usually the one the CM will come to stand next to. That way, when it goes black, you can at least see that little light, and that is also the panel that opens up to the ride so you are out of there quicker and also bypass all the others in the room (which is my reason for staying closer to that wall, hehe).

Interesting tidbit: The one in DLP is an elevator. The one in MK is not. Look at the floor; there's no break in the carpet.

It really is an amazing queue...but ToT...nope...not gonna happen...
I'm not scared or anything..just don't like that feeling of dropping to my death...
I bet it's thrilling in the last few seconds before a tractor trailer hits you at 60 miles an hour...but I'm not going to try it.

When I was a kid I was too scared to ride Alien Encounter.
Today, I am slightly nervous about riding Mission: Space. The only time I have ridden the orange side I felt like I was going to toss my carrot cake cookies. I have ridden the green side a few times since then and it is a little boring in comparison but at least I don't spend the rest of my day nauseated.

Space Mountain... I LOVE space mountain! However, it's the only ride at Disney that makes me fear for my own life. I would like to keep my head and arms INSIDE the ride vehicle at all times.
It's worth it though, right? SM ROCKS!

The last time I rode HM there was a wheelchair or something blocking the entrance door from closing. The room started stretching with the doors open. I had always held out a little bit of hope that it was an elevator (I'm not sure why) but it simply isn't. It's still awesome though.

It's just the dropping feeling that chills me to the bone. So 1) any advice on how to get over this and just ride it? and 2) anyone else have any or know anyone that has a fear of a ride like this?

Yes! As soon as I am near the edge of any kind of drop off, even with a railing, my stomach gets loopy. But, I really, really want to do ToT so I don't miss out on it. I keep telling myself that (1) I will be sitting down, so it's not like I'm actually falling with no support, (2) everyone in the compartment will be together and (3) my hubby really wants a picture of it.

Jedi Mind tricks? Like "You are not going to puke on this ride." "I will not puke during this ride."

My only fear is that I will get stuck on iaSW and will have to listen to that song for hours.

I don't ride the Teacups so I won't get sick. No fear just reality that lunch will soon be evacuated.

Ah yes, I won't ride Mission Space because of the motion sickness. We did the green side and I felt sick! I also wouldn't ride AE. I have done SGE before, but I don't like it and don't care if I do it again.

I'm just like you! I have a fear of dropping rides, rollercoasters and fast speeds! I always say to myself I'm gonna ride Splash Mountain or those little kiddie rollers but never do! I wish I had the guts to. I guess just know you'll laugh about your experience in the end...whether you panicked before you got on and how you were acting on the ride. In the end you'll look back and laugh! Remember, to enjoy life and create those awesome memories! Face your fear and try it! I wish you the best of luck and I hope you do get on the ToT!

I was terrified of roller coasters for the longest time (especially ones in the dark), but last fall my friend made me ride RnR (in the front car), and it was probably the best decision of my life! I rode it every time I went to DHS for the rest of my CP. Speaking of ToT, I rode it by myself at night after Fantasmic! one night. Another decision I did not regret. They are now my favorite rides ever

What was going through your head while you were waiting for the green light?

RnRC is awesome because you get that initial exhilaration from the take-off and then you relax for about half a second after you finish accelerating thinking the worst is over and all of the sudden you are thrown into a loop. The first ride is always the best.

I despise Splash Mountain because of that big drop. I rode it for my first time in 2007, and I didn't want to ride it again. I mean, you can't help but laugh after the drop, but I didn't like it. I HATE that dropping feeling! I feel exactly the same about ToT.

I also REALLY want to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster, but I'm too scared too. I don't want to be able to tell that I'm going upside down.

I'm a little too nervous to go on Expedition Everest. Are there any drops that gives you that weird stomach feeling? What does it feel like when you go backwards?

I just posted about this in another thread. I hated the drops on ToT and E:E the one time I tried each of them, and I will never try them again (although I'm glad I did once). However, on the other hand, I love RnRC. My hubby did not tell me about the corkscrews in advance, and I'm glad he didn't because I wouldn't have tried it. The ride is so fast and smooth that you almost do not realize you are upside down for a millisecond or two. I would try it. However, if you don't like the drop in Splash or ToT, you probably won't like all the ups and downs of E:E. The backwards part didn't really affect me but the drops made me miserable.
