The thing is, you choose to watch it, right? I know people thought he was terrible, but a lot more people liked him and cause everyone is so afraid of what the FCC is going to do, they take him off the air!

So he is off the air now? wow...
What about those stupid shows I see on MTV? I know Howard was vulgar, but it somehow amused me (shame on me, I know :o lol) but shows like Jackass are more repulsive than his and even dangerous, and do they also censor them? They should...
Plus Howard´s was at midnight.... when what you see on tv is mostly either or infomercials! :animwink:

MTV is on cable, where they can pretty much do anything they want.

As is E! And I think Stern's been pulled from six stations, right? The Stern thing is silly, the Janet thing is not. The "You can change the channel" bull**** doesn't work for the Superbowl. I get so mad when people do that. "Just change the channel" Yeah, it works if you KNOW what is going to be coming on, otherwise we kinda need somebody to let us know what we're in for. (The FCC, perhaps? :lookaroun )

I think Howard Stern is pretty damn funny when he's riffing on politics and making fun of celebrities, which is only about 10% of the time LOL! Otherwise I'm out channel surfing, looking for a station that ISN'T playing "Toxic" :brick:

Okay, silly question, I haven't been paying all that much attention, but has the FCC actually taken any action against Stern?

Is it possible that this is just a publicity stunt on his part, pretending to a be a martyr because Janet Jackson's and Bubba the Love Sponge were getting all the attention?

Last I heard, he was complaining that the FCC was about to shut him down, but, as far as I know, they never did. Did anything else happen after that?

They are making him pay a lot of money when he violates "policy". People on the air get fined regularly for things that are said and not bleeped out. Someone said the "N" word and it wasn't bleeped out but their argument is that it was a live caller, not someone on the show. I think the fine was around $750,000. His companies may start sropping him with those kinds of fines.

Thanks! But I'm still not completely clear. I know he had been fined in the past, and I know clear channel dropped him recently and cited a specific incident though it seemed they were intent on dropping him one way or the other. Was there any FCC fine associated with that or any other recent incidents?

Bubba was dropped from the Cincinnati market, but I do not know if that was in repsonse to a fine for WEBN. As for the FCC, they are around for a reason, but they must have been asleep during the early days. I mean, come on, has there ever been a show with more $exual innuendo than "Leave it to Beaver"? :animwink:

Okay, I'm starting to figure this out.

On January 27th, several days before the Feb 1 Super-Bowl, the FCC proposed their fine for "Bubba the Love Sponge" apparently based on obscene cartoon parodies. The fine was for the maximum of $27,500 per incident, but the segment ran 26 times.

details here

Less than a week after that, we had the infamous SuperBowl Boobgate, which caused quite a stir, but I'm not sure what, if any action the FCC took (I would think a fine would be apropriate since CBS didn't even bother to use a tape delay).

Currently Howard Stern has been claiming that the FCC is gunning for him (jealous that everyone else is getting the attention parhaps?)

I find the topic interesting, but I'm having trouble identifying any actions the FCC is currently taking that would have anyone upset. What specifically are we talking about?

I.... don't.... KNOW!!!!!!!!!

 :p

Last time I listened to Stern, he said the FCC was "preparing their case." Who knows how long it will take for them to decide what it is they want to charge him with. (I guess that would be the terminology... "charge"?)

Kinda off topic but kinda not, I've heard Janet Jackson's latest radio release, and now I undestand why she was trying so hard to get attention. :lookaroun It's pretty vile. Yes, vile! :hurl:

Oh, there's no denying that the Superbowl was purely a "Man, I need some publicity" reaction for her. Too bad that she has emerged unscathed from the incident.. and meanwhile the FCC is pushing us back into the nasty realm of censorship.

And here I thought the F.C.C. stood for the Funnel Cake Cart?

It does. It is also a new channel on Comcast: "Fat Crazy Children". Disney is sueing over the rights because they said they game up with this idea with the Mickey Mouse Club.

a fine would not be appropriate since nothing really happened, you saw it for less then a second, oh no, its the end of the world, we saw a boop for less then a second. I see more than that at my school, what happened at super bowl was not a problem, and CBS really does not deserve to be fined
