Favorite Restaurant in Epcot

Hi, I was just wondering what everybody's favorite restaurants were in Epcot, because lets face it Epcot has the best food... I'm a big fan of basically any restaurant in the world showcase myself, its so hard to pick one out. But then, I'm asking the question and don't really have to answer myself, right? :animwink:

I'd have to say the San Angel Inn, for not only the food, but the atmosphere....it's so pretty inside. And it could be very romantic I suppose if you were with the right person :)

Without a doubt it's San Angel Inn in Mexico.

It's the only one we make sure we go to every trip to WDW. The atmosphere and the food are outstanding.

So everyone loves it or hates it  :)

Maybe it's just gotten better since the last time some have eaten there? I mean, if you ate there once a while back and didn't like it, you wouldn't exactly be inclined to go back, would you?

I've been dining there since my Honeymoon back in 1995 and I have never had any sort of problem with the food or service there. Maybe the problems people have had with the San Angel go back before this.

Some of my other favs include: Norway, Germany, Japan and France.

I have eaten at San Angel Inn three times during the last five years. The last time was in October of this year. The food has not changed, as far as I can remember. It is always crowded though, so someone must like it. I just find it to be very poor quality food compared to what is available at other Disney restaurants. I live in the Southwest, and am surrounded by authentic mexican restaurants where I am usually the only english speaking patron during the day. I just find San Angel Inn to be overly Americanized food. Similar to what Taco Bell would serve if it sponsored the Mexico pavillion.

I just don't understand why you would waste your time eating at San Angel if you could hit Restaurant Akershus in Norway or Restaurant Marrakesh in Morroco. They both serve high quality food, have great atmosphere and are rarely crowded.

Well, I guess that hamburgers, hot dogs, apples, popcorn, watermellon, bananas, egg rolls, ice cream cones, corn on the cob, grapes, tacos, peanuts and many other foods are safe from being eaten by the "no hands" crowd. I suppose it just leaves more for me, the caveman who eats with his hands.

Personally, even though I love all of the items you've listed (except ice cream), I would only eat about half of them out in public while sitting at a table, a few of them while seated at a bench, and none of them while walking. ;)

Unfortunately, most Americans are picky eaters so restaurants are forced to "Americanize" their food. Some of them cook their food the way they think most Tourist would like it. Also, some foods, if cooked the way they do in their native Countries, would be too spicy or too greasy for some people so they are forced to make it drab for tourists. If most Americans were served PIZZA like it's really made in Italy, they would hate it. The same goes with most of the other Countries represented at EPCOT restaraunts.

If you want authentic Mexican Cuisine...take a trip to Mexico, meet the wonderful people, see the beautiful sites, and eat at one of the many marvelous restaurants there. Then go to Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Morroco, Canada, England, France and Norway and do the same thing.

There's no substitute for the real thing!:slurp:

Well I've done that.

Ok, I have been to England, France, Norway, Morroco, China, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany and Italy. I have enjoyed wonderful food around the world. I have lived in France for two years, most of the time with Morrocan families. I consider the food served in Morroco fairly authentic. With the addition of a little harrissa sauce, redily available from the waiter, it is very close. I would say the same for Norway, France, Canada and Italy. The pizzas in Italy really aren't much different that what I can find in my home town, without the egg on top of course. I do feel that the Japanese food is somewhat americanized, as is the Chinese food. I spent four weeks in China the last three years, and never once ate anything even remotely associated with Sweet and Sour Pork or Cashew Chicken. Then again, how crowded would Nine Dragons be if there served rat or monkey or dog or chicken hearts?

All that I am saying is that authentic Mexican food, just like any other ethnic food, is wonderful. Even if it is Mexican food is Americanized, it can be good. But San Angel Inn is horrible americanized mexican food. It tastes very similar to the frozen mexican entrees you pick up at the grocer. There is no reason why Disney can not improve the quality of the food there. It has such wonderful atmosphere. They have done so at other Epcot restaurants, including Le Cellier among others.

maybe the food quality at Mexico is different because they are an operating participant and Disney does not own them. As for my favorite food in Epcot I would have to pick the Bistro de Paris. I forget who said that the best food is not in Epcot but I agree with them. I think that the best food on Property has to be Victoria & Alberts. The past two times that I have been at WDW I have eaten there and it was wonderful.

What did you have there? I hate texmex as they have at the Cantina, but my american friends seem to find it delicious...aaarrgggggh!

As for San Angel Inn... it is a famous and very expensive restaurant in Mexico City. What they serve is haute mexican cuisine. I really don´t remember what I had when I ate there, but I was not dissapointed. I compared it to what I had at the Mayan Grill (which are owned by the same company) and that food was great! We took a group of mexican VIP´s for an elegant dinner with Disney Executives and we all loved it! The guests were very pleased too and the atmosphere was also very nice. OF course, it was nothing even close to tacos and enchiladas that many people think of when they think of Mexico. ;)

I don´t get offended if you say you didn´t like it, but I just want to let you all know that "chocolate chicken" is not a regular dish in Mexico... as I said, those are kinda "haute cuisine"... (unless you are referring to a dish called "Mole" in which chicken is dipped in a dark brick red spicy sauce, and one of the ingredients in the sauce is chocolate to make it less spicy, and it is the same sauce used for "enchiladas"). There are several mexican dishes that are not served in those restaurants and we eat them a lot. Also, Mexico has many different regions with different food in each, so it is hard to say what "mexican" food really is. For instance, I eat very different stuff from the north part of the Country. Things wrapped in banana leaves are from my side of the country while the rest of it cooks with corn leaves. The flavor is totally different... ;)

I agree with a previous post, I also don't believe that Epcot has the best food, best variety maybe, but not the best meal on the the WDW property.

The best food is at the delux resorts, pick anyone and the restaraunts are excellent.

As far as quality food in a park, I'll go to Liberty Tree Tavern or Brown Derby anytime.

San Angel is all about the atmosphere, the food is decent but it is the overall dining experience that makes the place special. Kind of like Sci-Fi Theater, nobody raves about the food, but the place is always packed because of the overall experience with the atmosphere.

You want a great meal, go to the dinner buffett at Bomas in AKL. Try an Afican wine (I'm not kidding), and the desserts are decadent.

As far as Epcot, the Garden Grill is the most underrated restaraunt in the park. Epcot also needs a great breakfast, at least they did when EE days were still with us.

heeeeeeeeey...I love those thngs...and I dont eat it like a primate eating one...They are a great value and taste great (in my opinion)...

The places I can overlook when I visit the park are Electric Umbrella, THE LAND's Sunshine Season Food Fair is precious for a quote of nutrition , try the Ice Creams and the Mickeyronies. In World Showcase how about San Angel Inn or Biergarten for some pretzels? In Japan I tend to stop at that little shop that sells snow-cones with fruital flavours. What was the name? Well, they are delicious.

The best resturant in World Showcase has to be Nine Dragons. They have a lunch buffet that is just great. And its never really crowded during the afternoon which is a plus!

:sohappy:

The last time we were there, we had an excellent lunch at the Rose and Crown (Fish and Chips!). For dinner that night we had a wonderful meal at Les Chefs of de France (Salmon over a bed of artichoke hearts!). Both meals were wonderful.

But, frankly, the food wasn't what made it for us. You can have a similarly wonderful ethnic meal in any large city. No, the real treat is the waitstaff. I don't know if all of the waitstaff is imported, but the young English waitress at the Rose and Crown was delightful - we laughed at our similar experiences at Harrods in Knightsbridge and I had a nice conversation with a young French waiter at Les Chefs - he was working towards a business degree and mastering English would make him that much more employable. These people were interesting and eager to share their culture and heritage.

It makes my heart happy knowing that there are other genuinely nice people in the world - around the world. We need more of that these days. I know that I don't get enough contact with other cultures in my adult daily life. Here's your chance to get to know a little about everyday life in another part of the world - don't miss it!
