Fate of Backlot Express?

For me, I'm looking at Hong Kong as a harbinger for what might be coming for Echo Lake. The ride system for the Iron Man Experience is almost a direct clone of Star Tours. With GotG potentially finding a home in Epcot (and thereby unnecessary for DHS), I could easily see ST being a Stark Research facility and Backlot Express being a Stark "employee cafeteria," with an Avengers Land stretching across where Indy is now and eating into the parking lot.

I know, east coast Marvel restrictions... but Spider-Man is in the MCU now. These contracts can get renegotiated, even when they seem impossible.

This gets thrown out every so often, but I'll just remind everyone that Iron Man has a 5 year exclusivity agreement in HK, which carries it through 2022 now.

It also exclusively takes place in Lantau/Central/Kowloon with a queue backstory to match. It would need to be completely redone to make sense outside HKDL. Obviously Soarin' over California suggests this isn't beneath TDO, but that's certainly beneath TDA where the rumour seems to rear its head more often.

Throw in the Marvel-Uni contract - for penny pinching TDO, there are just too many barriers for this to ever be on the table.

The assumption is that Star Tours would be rethemed, but the reality is, it's a more appealing attraction to the masses than the Muppets area. While I'd miss Muppet*Vision, I would think absorbing Star Tours into the Star Wars land could still be a possibility.

Alternatively, I'd love to see the complete opposite approach. Make Star Tours a Muppets themed attraction inspired by the Muppet movie posters. Have random faux movie clips/trailers of Prawn, Pirates of the Amphibian, Pigs in Space, etc. It could be a tie back to the studios tie in with Kermit (or another character) as the director in C3PO's seat.

Two Star Wars E-Tickets will take away that interest in Star Tours. I love it, but it's time to re-theme it and move on. JMO. Once SWL is open I'd take Muppets over Star Tours anyday.

I forget... do we know if there are any height/age restrictions on these 2 new E rides? If yes, then Star Tours could be even more important for families.

The battle ride is LPS which has the potential to not have any height restriction. I'm not sure if it would involve motion that is jarring, but Ratatouille in Paris (for example) doesn't have a height restriction. At worse, I would think that ride would be 40" or less.

The Millennium Falcon simulator could fall anywhere in a huge range of intensity. My gut is that it would be a 40" ride, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if it ended up being 42" or 44". Would be surprised if it were a height greater than 44".

Okay. The ride concept, especially with smaller vehicles, suggests that it could have a lot of motion (on a scale of Forbidden Journey) if they wanted -- but on the flip side, it wouldn't surprise me if Disney wanted the ride to be less intense and more accessible to different guests. Not just children who are shorter, but also those who have motion sickness and can't tolerate greater thrill rides. Star Wars has such multi-generational appeal that I could see them trying to make rides that are widely accessible.

I could see star tours staying- having a ride you can change to promote the new movies is a good move for management. Perhaps Disney can find a way to connect the sims to Star Wars land via a new Indy style queue then the existing queue and frontage can be repurposed to something new.

As an aside I could also see a hyperspace mountain style overlay the rnrc. I think the ride layout is very similar to space mountain in Paris so copying their design should be quite quick fit if they something extra to promote episode eight
