They can give one free per ticket, whether pre-scheduled or day-of. They used to give 3 free per ticket and then you could get more over the top from drops or remaining ones with lower demand. This would still allow for a significant amount of money to be raised from fastpass and dissaude some from using it.

If they were to allow one free per ticket, pre-scheduled, that takes away some of the argument that you have to rope drop to get on anything. Then you allow purchase after park entry, so like MaxPass used to have there would be a huge benefit for early entry into the parks. That's where the on-site hotel advantage kicks in for fastpass. Deluxe on top of that gets the extra evening hours.

They can give guests more then one and still see an improvement on the lines. The problem with only 1 or none is the lines will still be a problem and guests will now be ed at less front line access and long lines...as opposed to just long lines. IF Deluxe got 3. Mods got 2 and Values got 1 (which I STILL DO NOT AGREE WITH as they should all get 3) that cuts it down to 6 free instead of 9 for resorts guests. This cuts them by 1/3. Then use queues for the other lines. Maybe remove FP as an option for rides like Pirates, Small World, Nemo, LWTL, etc.

Anything is possible.

I don’t know what model they will go with. If deluxes get one free “premium” pass and mods get a free “moderate” pass and values get a 10% off dole whip coupon pass…

It’s fascinating to watch unfold.

That’s an interesting thought and a way to keep a tier structure in place, though values’ benefit would be unlimited access to Journey of Water - flowing soon at Epcot!

Attraction capacity has been more or less static since the late 90’s…maybe up 10% total?

attendance has risen 25%…it’s just a numbers game.

you know what makes it worse? $60 lunches…pushing people out of the restaurants and onto the paths.

wdw parks are pretty complex machines to run…every part affects the others

You’re consistent…I’ll give you that.

1. They can’t manage their crowd without fastpass
2. They want to charge you for them
3. “Guest satisfaction” isn’t the silver bullet you believe it to be. Only a drop in revenue is.

1) BS. They cannot even manage their crowds if they get rid of FP all together. That's a myth. The lines will never improve to the point where everyone is happy. You can twist it and turn it and maneuver the argument the way you want for the next 10 years and you would still be wrong.

2) I'm sure they do WANT to charge us for them. If they wanted to charge us enough though it would have happened a long time ago. There is a difference in charging people for all of them and looking for ways to to make some money and not pushing people away. They also would love to charge everyone to stand on Main St and watch fireworks. But instead of charging everyone to limit the crowd build up they simple offer a dessert party for those who want good spots. Just like they offer VIP tours for those who want quick ride access.

3) Guest satisfaction is what drives revenue.

…we’ll see how this goes. You believe that Disney is much more vulnerable to opinion than I do…I believe that the customers will cave - given the choice.

I hope I’m wrong…usually do.

One small example of paid fast pass roll out was the firework parties.

Remember when you could use a fast pass to reserve that nice grassy section to watch the fireworks for "free"?

Then they decided hey, what if we took that away and charged for it? Of course we will jazz it up a little....

Just a thought.

They will cave. Within reason. They have limits.

We all love the place. It's like a spouse who loves their abusive partner...lol...they get mentally abused for years and years and keep staying with them...EVENTUALLY they will reach their drawn line limit and stop.

It's funny how everyone thinks Disney cannot

You don’t know how right you are in the last part.

problem is Disney knows.

After hours is the thing…I grow tired of saying (and no one cares…why bother?)…but that was the Waterloo moment.

it’s a direct line to this. The most unfriendly customer move in history…but I’m more of Philosopher than a mouse ear wearer on this

I've been getting pounced on for years every time I say the parties shouldn't cut into regular hours. Or that the VIP fireworks viewing should never have been created, etc. etc.

the first part I totally agree with. The 2nd part, I never had a problem with WDW offering parties and upsell events to people as an option. If I did not have 3 kids and it was just me and my wife, Id buy the dessert package in December to see Enchantment. But $200 is a lot less than $500.

Because that’s sycophantic response…

“they didn’t shorten hours!!!”

because the attendance used to be lower and the parks weren’t crowded!!! That’s how hours were set. Moses didn’t bring them down on the 3rd tablet off the mountain

open till 7 in September because no one was in the park…open till 1 am in the summer cause it was crowded. In 1995…not in 2015.

I have so little faith in humans…the fact that this is the “mental rubix cube” that can’t be solved.

MK was open until at least 11pm every night of our honeymoon at the end of Oct 2000...and there were at least 2 or 3 nights that it was open until midnight or 1am.

My favorite "defense" of the cuts was, well no one was using them that late and should poor Disney keep paying CM to work an empty park?!

Yeah, I'm sure that was the case...........

Guilty.

On a side note...I have NO problems giving WDW my money. And everyone has different interpretation of value. Whether i pay for a signature dining experience, or an after hours event, or I buy merchandise, Im just as guilty at caving. I love WDW. To the point where in 6 trips in 10 years, the possibility of even 2 measly nights at Universal to see what its about ha never been more then a quick thought. The place has gotten A LOT of my money and DOES draw me back. I have my complaints and issues also but it has never been enough to push me away completely. You are not wrong on that at all. But there will be a point where EVENTUALLY people will be pushed far enough away where they will stop coming. Not all of them. But enough where Disney will notice and hurt themselves.
