Disney went as far as to offer $4 million for the second movie with a $500,000.00 bonus if the first movie made more than $50 million during theatrical release. Her agent insisted on getting the $500,000.00 regardless of what the first movie made so it could be said that she walked away from a four month job that would have paid her $4 million because of a $500,000.00 disagreement.
As for Frankie Muniz getting $5 million for staring in a sequel, there are a few considerable differences starting with the fact that he is a more accomplished actor having starred in other movies. It is also worth pointing out that the show he stars in is on a big network at primetime on a rather big night for the networks.
Miss Diff on the other hand, is pretty much a nobody to anyone who doesn’t watch the Disney channel. Disney has pretty much created her entire persona and I think that she is probably so attached to the character she has portrayed for Disney that she may have trouble expanding outside of that role as a leading actress
I’m sure she will be able to find work but the question is if it will be in starring roles for the kind of money that someone (her, her parents, her agent?) thinks she is worth. The way I see it, she was worth more to Disney than anyone else in town. As she leaves Disney she also lets go of the name “Lizzie” which is what made her so valuable in the first place. I mean, they tout her upcoming role as one of the kids in the movie “Cheaper by the Dozen” Hmm… that means there are 11 other kids in that movie and the actual stars are the parents. I’m pretty sure she won’t be making $4 million from that one.
Unless this album she is releasing really takes off (and assuming she learns to lip sync better than she did in the WDW Christmas parade) I see her music career going the way of Jennifer Love Hewitt. Does anyone realize that girl has released 3 albums?
In any event, Disney can still go forward with the release of an animated series starring the main character without the young actress and in so doing does away with at lot of the production cost as well as the headache which arises from relying on any single actor to carry it. It also gives them someone who is timeless and can continue to play a never-aging part for as long as the franchise holds value as well as the opportunity to distance Hillary from the part should they decide to replace her for a cheap second movie a few years down the road.
I know that Disney has said that there is no chance of reconciliation but Disney is focused on the bottom line and if there were a big turnaround in the Duff camp, I’m sure there would be a second movie and possibly a new series…
Perhaps Dr. Frankenstein is simply trying to send a message to his monster that it really is a cold cruel world out there beyond the gaits of the Magic Kingdom.
