With all the thought and design going into the FLE and the theming going into the addition from old Fantasyland....what about the horrendous theming going from FL into Tomorrowland.

Are they going to leave it as it is now? Poof...you are now in Tomorrowland.

I've thought about this, too, but it seems no matter how you slice or dice it, you're going to go from fantasy wonderland to Tomorrowland. If they could ever come up with a good way to soothe the transition, kudos to them. But at this point, I've gotten used to seeing the teacups and Enchanted Grove, and then doing an about face to see Tomorrowland.

Who plans this stuff out, anyway?

I haven't seen anything and none of our insiders have said anything so it doesn't look too promising. But I agree, there's nothing like eating in the futuristic Cosmic Ray's and seeing the pink and teal Enchanted Grove and teacups out the window; definitely not one of Disney's better transition areas.

That being said, I don't really know what they could do apart from using the forest theme to add more trees and foliage to kind of screen everything:shrug:

OH! OH! OH! I know!

They could just throw a circus in there between the two! It's totally perfect!

'Cause you know, we'll still have tents in the future... right?

Unfortunately at the moment that sounds like the plan.

I would love for this to be fixed. With the circus area coming especially because I'd rather not see giant circus tents from Tomorrowland.

What I'd like to see happen that won't would be for them to rip out the speedway (sorry, I enjoy it, but it's got to go or at least be altered) and try to find a nice transitional ride to place there. Something they could build large enough to hide the circus area. Perhaps some kind of indoor flume ride that could house two ride systems. One loads from FL and the other from TL, with exits being on the opposites. One flume ride could provide a small story about how Tomorrowland scientists found a way to go back in time to explore new lands and the final drop would be the "time travel" and you would exit on the FL side. While the other flume ride could show how FL characters found a riff in time and ventured in to discover TL.

Sounds kinda cheap when I reread it, but I think it could still work. Sounds better than the Dinoland USA backstory. :lookaroun

Not sure what the outside facade would look like though...

I think just the right buildings or the right shrubbery would do the trick. If they position things the right way they could obscure the view from one Land to another so as to ease the "OMG Princesses to OMG Future!"

Disney landscaping is wonderful, I'm sure they could think of something to block out those soon to be obnoxious circus tents.

They could always turn the Indy Speedway into a Tron Light Cycle race! They would have to build a large show building to house the ride, so that would easily block out anything in sight to the Northwest. And along the Northwest side, they could put up a bunch of trees to block out the building from view in the Circus area.

This is where I think the Castle Wall Idea would have been put to much better use. The wall could look like large masonry overgrown with ivy and flowers on the Fantasyland side and something futuristic and hidden a little with well sculpted landscape on the Tomorrowland side. Is a wall elegant? Not really, but it would be a cheaper and mostly appropriate means of addressing the issue without having to move a bunch of stuff.

Another option would be to break up the walkway with large planted areas that could at least obscure the offending views.

Hopefully, some castle walls will solve the problem of the Cosmic Rays area. However, I don't see how they could fix the the Speedway's intrusion into TTF and whatever will replace it.

That's because that path originally went into Birthdayland when it debuted. That was all meant to be temporary...I really don't think they were originally anticipating it to last this long.

I would have to think Tomorrowland is next on the list of upgrades. If a CarsLand style of ride is ever built at DHS, there's no reason why they'd need to keep the Speedway. That's a heck of a lot of usable space for one attraction that's way past its prime (even though it's one of our family favorites).

At the same time, I've always kinda thought of the pathway between the Speedway and Cosmic Ray's as kind of a transition area from one land to the next. There isn't a lot to look at, the Speedway isn't anything I'd consider as futuristic, Cosmic Ray's is pretty generic from the outside, and some of the FL style begins right across from Cosmic Ray's. So for me, the long walk from TL to the tea cups works perfectly to slowly transition from TL to FL.

It was my impression that the Cars Land ride would be closer to Test Track than to the Speedway.

Going a bit off topic here, but I would argue that the most obsolete attraction in MK is the Jungle Cruise. I've read that Walt originally wanted it to use live animals, but ended up with audio animatronics as a second choice. Now that we have the Safari in AK, I think they should do something else with the huge JC footprint.

The Safari in AK and JC have little in common (at this point in the JC's livespan). JC is meant to be toungue-in-cheek. And... with a movie in development to spur more interest in it, it's not going to be obsolete any time soon.

I dunno, if you can have a nearly 200 feet tall European castle perfectly visible from Tommorowland (or any land for that matter) the shift in theme doesn't see so odd

I agree. They're kinda different concepts. One is a real take on animal safaris and the other is more of a parody of such things. Plus, AK Safari doesn't let you sail into a temple or ancient ruins ;)

^ Or narrowly escape a rock avalanche........... :animwink:

Not sure if I'm correct, but wasn't the original JC serious upon opening, inspired by the original plan to use live animals? They then decided this seemed a bit silly, and changed the tone of the attraction by adding the tounge-in-cheek spiel. Can anyone back me up on that?

I see several attractions that need replacements in the Magic Kingdom, and Jungle Cruise isn't one of them. A refurb, definitely. Something along the lines of the Haunted Mansion's last refurbishment is a necessity at this point. If they really need a new attraction, there's a relatively large expansion space in Adventureland. Jungle Cruise and the Kilamanjaro Safaris serve two totally different purposes. The Safaris is a very serious attraction, and the Jungle Cruise is about sight gags. The only thing they have in common is that they share the theme of animals, but the rides are presented in different ways, and are not substitutes under any circumstance.

Besides, you do realize the amount of riots that would ensue if this classic Walt attraction were to close, right?
