Fantasmic Reopening Watch

They must have had some real technical challenges with the refurbishment.
Honestly, they did. The setbacks were somewhat devastating at times.
I know this is mainly supposed to be a joke, but isn't Maleficent played by a man in Fantasmic? When I was a CP, we were told that it helps Maleficent seem larger and more menacing from a distance, and I remember talking to a guy who sent me pictures of him in the Maleficent makeup for Fantasmic. They may have changed this since 2010, or it could be cast member gossip, but I figure some here should know for sure.
It actually has less to with the appearance of the performer and more to do with the weight of the scepter that Maleficent waves around. However, your information was correct (not just gossip) as of 2020.
Was it confirmed that F! at DHS will have new fountains like Disneyland?
It was not confirmed because DHS appears to have cut the budget for new fountains. When seen testing, they are confirmed to be the original, non-articulating fountains, but with new LED lighting. The technical updates don't seem to go beyond a replacement of existing lighting, speakers, and projectors and the update to the Fan! 2.0 sountrack from DL. I'm not currently expecting the DL style projection mapping either. The show will likely appear cleaner and fresher, but I wouldn't expect anything truly new effects-wise. I hope I'm wrong.
Take this with a grain of salt but I have friends who know performers that have been called back to start rehearsals very soon
Nah. Take the whole salt mine. I also know that a full cast of performers has have been called/hired to rehearse Fant! Barring any more technical disasters, it's actually happening.

Wait, no moving fountains and no projection mapping? What was this for?!

I’d LOVE to see this open before our Halloween trip. We miss it very much.

Really need it back during MK‘s party season. Without Fantasmic, only Epcot has a night show for regular tickets on party days.

Saw that earlier, so sad! Wonder if DHS F! will be dedicated to him?
Wouldn't doubt it.

There's a story he once told me that has to deal with Fantasmic actually. The night that Disney ended the run of the original cast of the Golden Horseshoe, by unceremoniously firing them because they were so old that Disney was literally afraid they might die on stage, they were testing fireworks. The way I was told it was Fantasmic, but who knows if it really was in development all the way back in 1986. (And it had to be the first cast, because Lucille Ball was there, and she died in 1989.) Regardless, she was with Ron, in some kind of roped off area. Nearby were Connie Chung and Maury Povich, also friends of Ms. Ball and the Disney CEO of the time, Mr. Eisner. The show was going well enough, at least until Lucille heard that the performers were getting fired - having known many of them for several decades at this point - and she reacted angerly, nearly slapping my professor, before he quietly slipped out after that, still partway through the performance, under the impression that he was going to test a big new show, alongside part of the group. Only Commie and Maury were scheduled to come along, thanks to Eisner, but Lucille invited herself. She was pretty old, and not as mentally there as she used to be (or so I'm told, I never met her). Yet my professor absolutely couldn't say no, so he relented.

The group of them, Ron, Eisner, Lucille, Connie, and Maury, all went to see a rehearsal of this new show. And my GOD it went terribly. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. They nearly were killed by 3 different fireworks. The entire saloon shook. People inside didn't know what was going on, and it was evacuated. Of course people just went about their way, paying no attention to the large roped off area. When the test finally ended, Eisner was not happy - and had Ron go apologize to his group of guests. Lucy unceremoniously said "What a crock of that was". And that was nearly how Fantasmic got cancelled before it even began, and how a show that ran for 30 years without an evacuation was evacuated.

Things are finally going well for F!

Looking forward to seeing this soon, but from what I’m hearing, it will fill up quickly since I expect most will prefer it to DEv2.0 and Harm. But I’ll take the win. It will apparently look and sound fabulous. At least it will reopen around the end of Daylight Saving Time so 2 shows per night shouldn’t be a problem.
