Fantasmic! 2.0 Rumors, Speculation, Announcments

Rumors that most of the show is recycled from elsewhere are unfounded. The only scene that you might be able to say that about is the jungle scene, which will resemble Tokyo's strongly.

The other new additions are new to Fantasmic, here or abroad, and differentiate from the same IPs in other shows by virtue of having live performers and new arrangements. Pirates and Tangled have appeared in WOC, but WOC doesn't have the Columbia or performers. Tangled had a scene in Forever, but didn't have Rapunzel and Flynn live.

I will say that I would have preferred to not have "Friend Like Me" used AGAIN in a nighttime spectacular. WOC, Disney Dreams, Ignite The Dream, Tokyo Fantasmic and now DL. That must be Steve Davisons favorite song.

I agree, I really hate that many of the shows are starting to look the same with the same movies portrayed and many times the same song.

I remember when I took some family members to DCA. And we saw the last show of Alladin. We then went to dinner and I believe later did Mermaid
By the time we saw the first showing of WOC I asked them what they thought and they said it was fun but that they had enough Alladin and mermaid for the rest of the trip.

I'm excited to see Fantasmic but the original used IPs that were not constantly used in other shows and parades. Now WOC and Fantasmic both have
Lion King, Alladin and Pirates Im surprised they didn't squeeze in the mandatory toy story.

Hopefully the creative entertainment teams and TDA work together and consider the entire resort experience.... and not work in project silos. Like, maybe they're going to replace WOC with a show that doesn't feature any of the same songs as fantasmic or Remember. Doubtful but essential. Could Happily Ever After make its way to the west coast in a world of color adaptation? And can it survive without any of the same tracks as Fantasmic? I believe so.

I'd settle for them to make a show that isn't a Disney greatest hits clip show. The greatest strength of the original Fantasmic, as well as the parades, is that they re recorded the songs used in the show.

World of Color literally just syncs scenes from various movies to Water fountains. Neat, but not as impressive as hearing a rendition of the song that can only be heard by viewing that show.

Happily Ever After also uses it, and yes, Aladdin is one of Davisons' favourites.

The best thing MSEP has going for it now is all the movies featured in comparison. Snow White, Alice, Pete's Dragon, it's different from the rest.

Oh no... Can you confirm that they will not replicate the monkey costumes from Tokyo?

I've seen the Tokyo Fantasmic! a couple of times. You have to remember two things:
1. The DisneySea venue is HUGE and the viewing areas are much further away from the water and sets than either of the American versions. Also, many DisneySea viewing areas are elevated rather high above the water, looking down 50+ feet on the show below. It's a very different scale and perspective.

2. It's Japan. It's kind of weird and frantic and wacky. Because it's Japan. This is a country where it's totally normal for the morning TV news weathergirl to share the screen with a cartoon badger who bounces from cloud to cloud.

And the Tower of Terror has a weird pygmy idol thing. Oh, wait. It has a talking raccoon now in the USA.

I think what's happened is that Disney music has slipped into a similar state as it was when Eisner arrived at the company back in 1984. He once remarked that the when he took the helm the company was using the same handful of old tired songs over and over and he aimed to change that, which he did. Frozen was the last meg-hit animated musical Disney had and it came after a relative lull. The long and short of it is that Disney isn't churning out a regular stream of popular new music the way it did during the so called "Disney Renaissance" in the 1990s.

Is this really any different than how Broadway is done? Shows get introduced and then worked and reworked over and over again in other markets before they ever make it to Broadway. And even then Broadway shows still get worked and reworked and then toured all over.

So think of Tokyo/HKDL as the Off-Broadway or Workshop process and DLR/WDW as the Broadway of Disney Parks.
I never thought of it that way... That makes a lot of sense.
