I just don't want to do any of it. I have no idea how.
What do I do first?

Well, first thing is decide where you want to get married. Book the church or area where the wedding will be, if not in a church and the reception first. Those are the two most important things.

Then everything else will fall into place when you're planning. Don't stress yourself out on the details. It's not that big of a deal. The one suggestion I can make...and this is a huge one, and it's not just b/c I do this for a living, but b/c I truly believe it. It's hire a good photographer. Don't just hire someone who's cheap or have a family member doing it. After all is said and done...the pictures from the wedding are the only thing you'll have besides memories. And memories fade fast. (Especially on a night when you'll remember sitting at the head table and then all the sudden, it's time for the last dance of the evening! ) Don't spend thousands on a dress you'll only wear once, don't buy a cake that is a thousand feet high, and don't buy flowers that cost a year's salary...but do spend quality money on somebody who will help you to remember the night. You won't regret it.

(Oh and the things I know for sure you'll need to get once you've got the date booked:

dresses
tuxes
flowers
rings
photographer
cater (sometimes comes with hall)
videographer (optional, and not used very often, at least here)
cake
invitations
DJ or band

and I'm now drawing a blank...you'd think I'd have this down...I do this for a living! )

The house smells like my mom's chili and it's so delicious. My mom makes the BEST chili. The perfect night-before-we-send-Luke-off-to-college food.

I've heard that. We're deciding between 2 different venues and were looking online at photosites of actual weddings that took place at them. We looked at one and thought we hated the venue, but then saw another photogs pics of a different wedding at the same site and loved it! Same place!

Add to that tables and chairs for the reception, if they're not included with the location.

I prefer to just not think about it.

Maybe we will just shack it up for the rest of our days.

I mean honestly, how can I afford to go to WDW and that? As you can see I have my priorities.

It really turned out nice and well we were happy..and that is all that mattered...oh and it all cost less then $500 dollars

We also went to WDW a week later for the Honeymoon...we were there for New Years Eve...:D

Well we got money and Disney tickets as wedding gifts so the honeymoon was free..plus we did not pay a penny for the wedding..:)

Thanks for the great tips. I will be writing this stuff down.

no prob. :D

Oh and you forgot the most important thing....alcohol!

ah yes.

Yep...it all depends on the quality of the photographer. Even the most expensive photographer can make something look like crap. Never base quality on price...the most expensive might not be the best, and the least expensive might not be the worst. You need to actually look at the quality of work...price doesn't matter in this instance. (well, unless it's like WAY outta your price range. And I'm talking thousands and thousands of dollars out of it! )

You'll be fine dear.

Sorry, got distracted reading all the free dining threads. I'm not sure whether the people complaining have really high expectations or wether the servers really aren't doing so hot. We'll find out it a few days.

I was distracted with that as well.
I think they are complaining.
And it is free.......that should be the whole point.....free......

well that is 100% true...it is free, but I do agree, I shouldn't get absolutely horrible service, simply b/c it's free. I should get normal service, but I don't expect the sun, the moon, and the stars. I just expect a good meal and a drink refill or so (What's his face drinks a lot! He's like a camel!). I'm not going to expect for them to serve my meal on a golden platter or expect that my dessert will be ready immediately after my meal. I just expect them to do their job...and I think that's where the difference lies. If I feel that they simply ignored me or something to that effect, then yes, I will complain, b/c I don't want them to do that to another patron. But I in no way have high standards on even that. I'm probably one of the most easy going people ever.
