Fall for us in Magic Friends

I would guess her power's still out.
And I wanted to talk to her yesterday. Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete were on Oprah yesterday talking about autism. I only caught the last 10 minutes but it seemed like it must have been informative. And they were continuing the topic in an online chat after the show ended. I was wondering if Jen saw it.

Actually, my power was back on yesterday afternoon - I just got really busy. Abby took her turn with the stomach thing and was home yesterday. I heard about the show but didn't see it. A friend of mine, who has an autistic son, was telling me about it. It sounds like Jenny McCarthy really came out on the vaccine issue. Brave lady! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Yay!
It doesn't hurt to have someone in the limelight on your side.
At the very end of the show, Holly asked pediatricians to maybe have some respect for the moms out there. . .to listen. That really made me think of you.

I don't know much about Autism. But a friend of our family's daughter has autism and they found out it was from the mercury in some vaccine they get as babies. And since then they have not gotten any help from the government even though they have lots of documentation.
Is this the vaccine you are referring to? It's just awful that doctor's would not know about how these things can harm a child.

Yes, and the response from the CDC (?) was really interesting too. They no longer totally deny that there's a connection.

 I have to say that our family doctor has never belittled our discoveries as we research this issue. The only thing I would say is that he didn't push hard enough for early testing. The big myth is that boys develop slower than girls, so don't worry. And it wasn't really his fault, it was a general thing we heard from many people. Knowing what I do now, we would have done things more quickly. But if by understanding and addressing this issue, children are diagnosed better - it's all good.

Yes, it's a preservative called thimerasol, about 50% of which is made up of ethyl-mercury. A book that really brings this issue to light is called 'Evidence of Harm'. I urge anyone interested to read this book - not light reading, but extremely vital as part of the puzzle in understanding.
The point is, NO medicine is 100% safe for anyone, even vaccines. If your family has a history of immune-related issues, I strongly urge caution with vaccination. Joel was fully vaccinated up to his diagnosis, but we have had him medically exempted from the remainder of the vaccine requirements - we cannot risk an regression in his progress. And for Bunny, watch out for the DPT vaccine, there are still traces of this preservative present in it. :fork:

Well, they can't - they're stating themselves that there are 1 in 150 children with this diagnosis. The first of the lawsuits have begun in the Vaccine Court. The whole community I am sure is waiting to see what happens.
One thing to remember - the CDC is a gov't agency and responds to lobbyists as much as Congress and the Pres. And a HUGE lobby in DC is the pharmaceutical industry.

Sorry I am not educated better in this, but how do you prevent this? I mean all babies need to be vaccinated right? Is there safer vaccines available now?

Vaccination is truly a mixed bag. I think that for most children, it is okay. What I am saying is do not do it blindly. Do your homework, and ask your doctor about mercury free vaccines. And one thing you must keep in mind - the flu vaccine that is used to scare everybody every year about an epidemic - it still contains about 25 micrograms of the mercury. If you have a strong immune system, or no family history of vaccine reactions, you are probably OK. They do recommend it for infants and pregnant mothers - however, I feel it is essential that you insist on thimerasol-free vaccines.

Something else...remember for every vaccine commercial out there, there is a drug company behind it trying to sell their product. Yes, I'm pretty cynical - but I figure I have the right to be. There isn't a cure for autism, there is only therapy, and patience, and lots and lots of love. My son's life will not be as I envisioned it during my pregnancy. But I am confident that it will be meaningful in a different, wonderful way. And truly, Joel could be much more severe on the autistic spectrum. He is doing very well.
