Facebook on the decline?

I still use Facebook a good bit. It is a one stop shop to keep in touch with friends and family as well as a few of the blogs I follow. Thanks to facebook I interact my nephew and sister almost daily basis vs. the yearly phone call. I have also gotten in touch with some old friends and can easily communicate with them.

Twitter is just too limiting and chaotic for me. I find the 140 character limit far too restrictive on the occasions that I have used it to contact customer service.

I do not really worry about privacy because I do not put anything on my facebook page that I would not put on a billboard in Times Square. I have never operated under the delusion that anything that goes over the internet is 100% secure.

No FB. FB & I mutually hate each other. It's not secure so they can go take a flying leap. Of my family of 4 including a 17 & 16 yro only the youngest has a FB. My oldest son refuses. My brother tells me I'm antisocial because I refuse to join FB & keep in touch with childhood/school friends. Well, if I've not been in touch with these people for 20-30 years there's prob'ly a reason for that. Duh. I have a busy enough life. Ain't nobody got time for that. Sorry.
My sisters tell me I'm antisocial because I don't have a FB account and I'm okay with that. (They tell me everything anyway.)

I would be fading Facebook if I was in the business of doing such things. They have yet to prove they can actually generate a steady, long term profit, and now the kids are bailing because it's become embarrassing. Not a healthy outlook. Facebook relied on the cool factor, the it factor. That factor is now swinging towards the negative. I would be bailing fast if I owned any stock in Facebook.

Now that their parents are on it, it defeats the purpose for kids to communicate among themselves. It's not surprising they've switched to other things.

I spend less than 5 minutes a day on FB, mostly just to keep up with extended family and sending birthday messages. Too many people seem to use it to brag about their accomplishments and post flattering pictures of themselves - including my cousin with the job, who's old enough to know better.

FB isn't going anywhere at this point... this is just another news story covering the same phenom that always happens with kids.

The 'cool spot' is no longer cool once all the people you don't want show up. Doesn't matter if it's a corner, sub shop, or social media site.. the same thing always happens. Kids want to be away from certain others.. be it their parents, undesirables, etc.

By hitting the mainstream.. and not just the kids... FB has cemented it's position for a long long time. The 'hot spot' for teens changes in months... the critical mass for adults takes years to change.

snapchat, vine, ooovoo, instagram, twitter, etc were all flocked to by teens simply trying to find a social media space 'away' from others.. each (except twitter) will suffer the wrath of the mass exodus when they've become 'uncool'

The only social media I have is Facebook but mostly for the apps and games. I don't have the luxury of being able to play Candy Crush or Bejeweled on my mobile phone! But I do have concerns about their security. I know they changed it sometime earlier of the calendar year and I'm the type of person that is paranoid about social media security. I have a Twitter but never use it. I can't express my thoughts in 140 characters or less for me. It's just not possible. And Tumblr is too discombobulated with pictures everywhere and Instagram, well, I don't need to take pictures of everything that happens in my life. Too much!

To me, every top notch product goes through phases where it's on the top but then, when competition emerges, the top king is knocked off and another takes another. Music is a perfect example of how quickly things can go from obscurity and being unknown to famous and getting recognition. No one ever heard of Harlem Shake, Macklemore, Robin Thicke or Lorde two-three years ago but they are top trends in music in 2013. (At least not me!)

Other than that, I just think everyone loves anything that's new or in the now so to speak and that holds true to practically everything. New phones, new music, new social media. Pretty soon in 2015, some other social media site will emerge out of nowhere.

Heading for the great escape.
Facebook is fine , ideal for quickly organising social contact, though i can understand why young folks prefer instagram for exchanging photos of their nether regions. Never was one of the Twiterati the only Follow Following i do is Rangers.
Ive never been cool except at work obviously but then it is a chilled environment, so changes in fads tend to drift past unnoticed.

Both of my teen sons have long since "unfriended" me. The youngest has even gone so far as to completely block me.
Initially my feelings were hurt, but they're both complete fools on FB; so no harm, no foul.

They should appreciate you as a mother. If my mother were on Facebook (which she isn't) and I had done that, she would have been so mad...and I would be in such trouble. LOL.

Facebook is nothing more than a fad. A fad made popular by the media. People want to complain about MM+ stealing dataz, they should look at Facebook who's revenue its driven by it.

No thanks.

Like I have said before, if there are people on Facebook from my past who were important enough to get back in touch with, I would have stayed in touch with them in the first place.

Jimmy Thick- No FB in the Thick family thank you.

I don't know about teens. My son, who is in law school, said he never looks at it anymore.

I still like it for the same reason I always did - the pictures. My baby cousin, my best friend's new flowerpots, a bunch of snow.

My elderly aunt who can't travel gets pictures of all kinds of things and updates from all her nieces on a regular basis. Yes, they could be printed and mailed, but this is just easier.

I don't understand the Twitter and have no interest in that.

I still use Facebook, and log into it most days as my family all live miles away from me, and it's handy for them to see pics of my son etc. However, I barely use Twitter anymore. I use to log on there every day but now I can go for weeks without feeling the inclination to check it.

Facebook is the most powerful tool ever created for staying in touch with friends, family and people with common interests. With over 1 BILLION active monthly users. Even if you don't like it (and I am not discounting those who dislike it), you should at least be honest about what it is.
