Facebook on the decline?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Facebook is the most powerful tool ever created for staying in touch with friends, family and people with common interests. With over 1 BILLION active monthly users. Even if you don't like it (and I am not discounting those who dislike it), you should at least be honest about what it is.
Love your new avatar.
There sure aren't many men more handsome than a young Harrison Ford.

I still use Facebook, and log into it most days as my family all live miles away from me, and it's handy for them to see pics of my son etc. However, I barely use Twitter anymore. I use to log on there every day but now I can go for weeks without feeling the inclination to check it.
I live on FB.
I have one single post on Twitter, but I do check in daily, as I follow a lot of Disney bloggers.

I had a Facebook account in 2005, when you needed an.edu domain to belong. I primarily used it to keep in touch with classmates for group projects or to get class notes in case my son or me was ill. I left in 2009, because I got tired of having family members and in laws friend me, and at the time I was also looking for a job. I had nothing to hide, but I did not feel my marital status or number of children I have were the business of any potential employers.

I did rejoin over the summer. I like to follow certain fitness and yoga instructors for information on DVDs or workshops in my city. That's really all I use it for.

Now some guy is sending me random messages and I think I am going to have to put him on ignore.

Besides the fact that a lot of posters don't seem to like the visibility here, there's now a new lawsuit against FB. You would think it's common sense that they would do this and that everyone would assume it was being done.

Personally, I miss the 80s/90s days of the BBS. Yeah, it's not a perfect analogy (more like these forums). But the postings were a d_mn site more intelligent than anything you find on FB. I think somebody else noted that FB is pretty much all about making each individual the center of their perceived universe. Just too much vapid stuff. Leading to clogged tubes with duckface jpgs (remember when you could actually surf at 14.4?).

Heh, when twitter started to take off my running joke in IRC was that it's like having a personal IRC channel filled with /me <insert something> posts.

When twitpic came out, I wondered if people had honestly forgotten what the word "twit" means.

Well, no one paid attention in the 80's when they bought those "junk" bonds. How big a hint did they need?

Irc 5 years ago? I thought only file/req bots were left on primary irc networks

Irc was back in the early nineties... Back when PPP was still an upgraded connection :)
