Extra ways to sprinkle pixie dust on a trip?

24 days to go and I'm sitting here thinking..."I wonder how I can make my trip even more magical for my kiddos???" I just finished ordering a personalized cake for our first night to be served to the kids after dinner at Whispering Canyon! I'm not even going to tell my DH, so hopefully he'll get some excitement from it too! Just trying to think of little ways to surprise them without paying tons of cash...What do you all do to add a little extra pixie dust to your trips? I know some of you must have some tricks up your sleeve?? ;)

I ordered a gift basket from the Disney gift shop and had it delivered to our room that first day. I had the card signed "welcome to my world! Love, your favorite mouse." DH and I also planned surprises throughout the trip. One was lunch ressie at TRex, one was a make over at the Pirate League, and one was Pick a Pearl at Epcot. They were just things we knew DS would enjoy and we planned to do anyway, but just didnt tell him about them in advance. Then we would make a big deal saying stuff like " we're on our way to your second surprise!" He got a kick out of it and was always excited!

Disney world is enough for my kids. They aren't asking for these things. I want to give them these things to add to their experience. I love the suggestions from @Tink0102 and that's exactly what I'm looking for. If you don't do anything additional for your trip that's fine. To each their own. But, I think you need to remember that phrase before you chastise someone for doing it differently than you would do it.

And, just to be clear, Disney didn't push any of this at me. In fact, it is somewhat difficult to order a cake - there's no catalog, no on-line ordering, etc. I had to look up whether I could do it, how to do it, and then call a number that I had to search for. So, @PUSH , it's not Disney corporate pushing these things at me. I think it's wonderful, though, that they offer them because I am someone who is looking to do something a little extra for my trip.

It wasn't meant so much as a chastisement - I just don't understand the whole pixie dust thing I guess. You're right - to each his own. Have a magical trip.

Hi there! I usually get one of the gift bags from the Disney Store about 6 months out (CARS, Princesses, Marvel stuff now - a ton to choose from for about $2.99) and through the year I find little purchases and stuff to throw in there...Disney snacks, Disney pens, Disney coloring books and such - just little stuff that fills up the bag. I also usually throw (you can base on your kids ages) a gift card of whatever monetary amount. On the day we leave to go to Disney World I'd give her the bag. Smiles abound and snacks and stuff to do on the trip down plus they have their "official" WDW Gift Card to shop with :)

Wallmrt has cheap disney tee's, walgreens and target have cheap disney items. I put together my own gift bags and add stuffed animals, candy, pool toys, light rings, an autogrph book, maybe a gift card and send the kids to the pool or food court and hang back and place them on the table with glitter and cards from there fav character for when we get back( sprinkle some glitter outside the door too) you can also get free balloons in the lobby. much better and less costly than ordering through them and you pick what your kids like. Depending on the season you can get great holliday items. We've even used a halloween mickey head bucket to put them in. I pack all this in a suitcase they aren't allowed in and I dont have to open in front of them. We have 4 kids so this makes it easier and I collect through out the year and order sale items at the disney store too. Place snacks they can take to the parks also. Since they recieve this they don't tend to ask for things at the parks. We sometimes wrap part of the items and tell them they can open 1 a day while were there. I make them wait til the end of the trip before using the gift card and allownce money for that special purchase as each day they change their minds.

Ahhhh yes, the fun of ordering a custom cake. I'm currently waiting for the Contemporary to get back with me regarding our custom cakes. I love it in the end, but boy, the process can really try my patience.

As for pixie dust...have you though about...well, just that- Pixie Dust? I usually try and remember a small container of fine grade cake glitter for each of our trips...

In the earlier trips, it was more like Tinkerbell paid them a visit or happened to fly over their heads on the way out the door, but now it's just fun to have a little extra 'literal' pixie dust.

While cake disco dust glitter is an awesome consistency for this, fine grade regular old glitter works too. :happy:

We're also going to try and do pick a pearl, have some surprise outfits worked into the mix, and surprise dining as well.

Surprise Dinner Reservations!

I looooove to do this for my fiance. And recently on a trip with Mom and Sister - I did one for each of them too!

My sister had been dying to try T-Rex. She told me about a week before we went. I told her it was all booked - but it wasn't. So sitting at breakfast the day before and talking about sit down dinners and she said she wished we had booked more and I said "yeah...good thing I scored us a table at TREX last week" :jawdrop: she loved it.

Same thing to fiance. He loved Ohana and was whining to go again. I said no we were trying something new. So we went to Poly to "eat at captain cooks" and while walking around upstairs I said "we should make ohana ADRs early in the week while we have stomach space...like tonight!" and went to the check in desk.

Could be awesome for the kids or the hubs! Food makes everything better. Have fun!

I'm planning on doing the gift bag idea as well. I'm also getting outfits that match the restaurants that we're going to. (So Winnie the Pooh shirts for Crystal Palace, Mickey shirts for Chef Mickey's etc..). I'm also going to make letters from different characters to be left under the door every night for them to find in the morning, letting them know what our plans are for the day.
Can you tell I'm a little excited to take my kids to Disney???? :)

We're doing some extra "pixie dust" next time, as the trip spans my daughter's birthday, my beloved aunt (who has never been on a plane or to Florida, let alone Disney World) is coming with us, and so is my father, who will be making his first venture to Disney World since my mother died.

Our extra "pixie dust" adventures are: (1) staying at the Wilderness Lodge Villas on rented DVC points -- staying in a Deluxe is HUGE for us, as our family grew up staying in the Campground and considered recent discounted stays in moderate resorts to be a "wild splurge"; (2) dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table for my daughter's birthday, something we've always told the kids was "too expensive" to be an option; (3) the Hoop-de-Doo Musical Revue, which my Dad and I last saw during a family trip with Mom and my sister around 1985; and (4) if I can book it, the "Wishes" Dessert Party on our last night.

Of course, our vacation would still be magical without any of these extras, but because I know it's a once-in-a-lifetime (or possibly-last-time-in-a-lifetime) experience for some of our travelers, I really want to make it extra-special.
