The "Extinct Attractions Club" has put out a new video featuring a Michael Landon special from 1980 about the upcoming EPCOT Center!

http://extinct-attractions-club.com/marchoffer.html

I know that some of the people on this board know about this club and the amazing things you can find there, but I am just continually amazed at this and want to share it again, for those who don't know...

I get their e-mails and have purchased some of their products (The 1964 World's Fair DVD and the Carousel of Progress DVD, and their Thurl Ravenscroft tribute, with live interviews). I am constantly amazed at the EXTREMELY RARE video that they have been able to get about the parks (both WDW and DL). I just had to share here. Check it out and look deep into their catalog. Amazing.

And by the way, don't miss the owner's story. It will amaze you, too! It is found at http://extinct-attractions-club.com/new_about_us.html

Yes, there are new videos, and this is news ... but this club is just plain amazing.... I had to share again.

I like the extinct attractions club's videos but there is something I can't get over. I don't know what it is. Perhaps its the amount they charge (Can't really judge I don't know how long most of those DVDs are).

I bought a few of them a couple of years ago. Most were about an hour in length. But I agree with you. The cost is kind of high (though I suppose it's about normal for a store-bought DVD), and I wasn't particularly impressed by the ones I did get...especially Nature's Wonderland and Adventure Thru Inner Space.
My advice to anyone looking for great videos is to look to Marni1971 (how's that for a plug, Martin?). His videos far exceed anything else I've seen on the internet and, best of all, he makes them freely available at numerous sites. But that's just my opinion...

Why should we have to pay for videos of extinct rides. Isnt that like copyright infringment.Mr.Pickles will report!!!!!!

Correct... I hate to be a buzzkill here to...but -- They are taking copyrighted and protected programing, and reselling it. I wonder if this person has a copyright release from NBC (the network that produced and aired this special for Disney). [I see no such thing stated on this web page, selling the item]

Doubtful a copyright release was given-- as Disney NEVER releases copyright on ANYTHING... same goes for NBC.

For the record, Mr.Pickles does not like web sites like that, and Mr.Pickles thinks they should not be advertised in this forum, because most likely someone for that site made this post,( just Mr.Pickles deducton, dont mean ANYTHING), and is using our love for Disney to make a buck.

Its the same as a stranger taking a picture of you with a character to keep for himself,( by the way this WILL PO a cast member ).

Mr.Pickles.....dont like it.

No, Mr. Pickles is wrong. I have nothing to do with that club. I live in Richmond, VA. The owner lives in California, as you might have noticed in his background.

I have thought about the copyright issue, but if you peruse the site you will see that most of his material is made up of new interviews, or home movies that have been donated or sold to him. But, more telling, (1) he works in the industry, and (2) has extensive live interviews with Disney legends and people involved with the company (including Roy), who are fully aware of copyright. I am almost certain that, as many Disney people as he has interviewed, they know exactly what he is doing, and probably support it because IT'S LIKE THE BEST WORD-OF-MOUTH ADVERTISING A COMPANY COULD EVER HAVE! Shutting down a club like this would be like shuting down the Disneyanna conventions: cutting off your nose to spite your face! And, believe me, marketing people know this.

Either way, I just knew that people here would benefit from finding hard-to-find interviews and ride-throughs. I know that there are some memories that are probably only available from a fan, with personal videos like these. But the new, live interviews of Disney legends by a fan (and not just Leonard Maltin on the company payroll) just made these worth noting, I thought.

I did not post this just to get smacked around; people who know me around here would know that. Criticism of the product is one thing, but get to know me before you jump to conclusions. I know why people sometimes hesitate to post here. Please just take this whole thread for what it is worth: a simple observation that there appears to be some unique stuff out there that some of you might have been looking for.

If Mr.Pickles said anything to offend, Mr.Pickles is sorry. Mr.Pickles DOES tend to say things without thinking.

But on the other hand, web sites like that are not here to preserve long lost memories of classic rides, they are here to make money, pure and simple, and if these videos are public domain,( which Mr.Pickles is sure they are not, ), they should be readly available to the public without charge. See them for what they are, PIRIATED CONTENT.

Mr.Pickles can see this, and I'm just a pickle.

And once again Mr.Pickles is sorry.

Mr.Pickles has given some thought to this issue, and everything you say in this passage has Mr.Pickles wondering. So if i work in the theme park indutsry I can take videos of rides and sell them for my own profit on top of the wage or salary I already receive? And I dont have share the wealth I earn to the people who's intellectual property Im making money off of because its the best word of mouth advertising a company could have.....as long as I do some interviews with old company employees of figureheads...

Mr.Pickles wonders what would happen to this site if Disney knew about it. Mr.Pickles remembers Disney making pre-schools taking down paintings of Disney characters. Mr.Pickles thinks if someone is making money off Disney, Disney wants to know, and Disney wants the money. Mr.Pickles thinks that behind the great magic of Disney, there is a even greater wall of lawyers.

Mr.Pickles shall discuss this topic no more.

Paul,

Also check out their podcasts. They are hilarious! David Oneal is a great guy he does a lot of charity work to help people who live in Anaheim hotels around Disneyland. The podcasts also feature the beautiful, lovely, and talented (BLT) Kristin Taylor. They are great listen and they are absolutely free.

Thanks. I just saw the podcast link yesterday. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I know that some of the rare footage that were on the DVDs that I bought was a treat.

I am also old enough to remember the '70s Mickey Mouse Club -- it's when I first fell in love with Lisa Whelchel! So, I may get the new MMC set, or at least the '70s MMC special that he made.

As for copyright on the stuff that is from TV, perhaps he has secured the rights, again especially since so many Disney insiders have been involved in the projects.

And it is a neat thing that he is giving back to the downtrodden who live in the hotels around DL. These types of people are often forgotten.

I would also recommend the Carousel of Progress DVD Disc 1 and Disc 2 and also the Haunted Mansion Volume 1. These are my favorites of the DVDs the Extinct Attractions Club has put out. The Carousel of Progress disc 1 features a very well done documentary with disney legends like Bob Gurr and Rex Allen Jr. (the son of the voice of "Father" from the original show). COP disc 2 has some cool extras like full show performances from WDW and also a piece with Walt Disney talking about the attraction on his TV show prior to the 1964 World's Fair where COP debuted.

The Haunted Mansion Volume 1 is a two disc set featuring a fabulous documentary on the history of the attraction, plus there are ride throughs from WDW and other cool extras. Check these out I think you will enjoy them as much as I do. Now, if David would finally get the Haunted Mansion Volume 2 done! I am anxiously awaiting this history of the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. I also am looking forward to DVDs on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and It's a Small World. These are scheduled to be out sometime in 2006!

If his goal is just to make money pickles, how come he was recently invited by the Walt Disney Company to the Disney Studios in Burbank to have his videos put into the Disney Archives? They will be talking about this on their new podcast next week. I suggest you listen to it. Also, David Oneal has the support of all the Disney legends like X Atencio, Bob Gurr, Alice Davis, and Rolly Crump among others. They think what he is doing is great in preserving their work with the Disney theme parks.
