Expedition: EVEREST Ahead of Schedule

Not at all. If you look at the car picture, the bars attached to the track connect into what I drew as black bars. If the entire ride car were able to spin 360 degrees from right to left in order to keep you right-side-up, it would be fine. The joint connecting to the car would have to have a motor on it to correct for the position. Gravity would incline you barrel roll upside down all the time.

Ah, I see that now. But tell me, did you design this yourself? Because when this thing would come back up and reset itself, it would have to be really strong, or the arms would break off.

Yes, I did just think it up last night.

As for the arms, yes... they would have to be strong. However, loading could be done in the inverted position... less strain there.

As for switching during the ride, a lot of the problem could be helped by the design of the track. Rather than the arms really PULLING the car into the upright position, the track could swing... so that natural forces aided considerable.

But yes, the arms would have to be pretty tough.

Wouldn't that be cool though? Inverted to standard... impossible to design, but awesome potential.

Not quite impossible... At one time there were rumors of Disney developing such a thing for Fire Mountain!:animwink:

Problems I see with it....
When you turn one way the car will swing out, towards going into the "up" position, but...
When you turn the other way....nothing. It would have to swing both ways (like an Arrow suspended) to survive the Gs in the turns.
Plus, there is no way to make two arms strong enough to take the Gs for very long. The positives at the bottom of a drop will put a beating on them.
Next thing you know, you're welding the trains between each circuit (cough-X-cough).

Sorry to be picky...I'm gonna go ride some coasters this weekend, so I've got them on the brain.

Everest Opening Date?

Does anyone know if Everest is still ahead of schedule? I'm planning a family trip for Feb. 2006 and hope to have a chance to ride it.

Most recently (this thread is REALLY OLD) they are ahead of schedule. I had to go back and read through this whole thread...

I believe Lee and Corrus have since changed their opinions about it not even soft opening in 2005.

We'll have to wait and see, but from where Everest is now, if they can keep it up, a late 2005 soft opening is not out of the question by any means.

Check back in Sept, a better forcast of possible opening will start emerge. Right now can't tell.

We had a rumor a few weeks ago that the current plans call for soft openings in November 2005...

I believe it was Pam who first said that.

But like Lynx says, it's hard to know for sure untill later in the year. Even in June we should have a better idea.

Riding?

So if it's supposed to open in late 2005 then when would soft opening happen? what i'm asking basicly is if I might be able to ride it when i'm down there?(July) If anyone knows please let me kno! thx

The latest I've heard is that the EARLIEST it could open, and I mean that, would be very late November, with limited soft openings and then potential CM previews in December, followed by an opening in January or February for guests.

Your logic doesn't work in a Disney World. ;)

Disney, especially WDI, has been known to do the impossible. If Joe Rhode really wants to get it done by this year, I know do doubts that it will be done. Heh heh.

This news though rumored makes me happy to say that maybe waiting for our first wdw x-mas trip this year might not be too bad after all!!! :sohappy:
