Exit through the gift shop- when did that start?

I am trying to think how many current WDW attractions exit through a gift shop...

MK:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain

Animal Kingdom:
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur

Hollywood Studios:
Tower of Terror
Star Tours
Rock 'n Roller Coaster

Epcot:
Frozen Ever After
Imagination Pavilion
Seas Pavilion

Am I missing any?
Magic Kingdom:
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh exits through Hundreds Acre Goods.
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin exits through Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Photos.
  • Does Fantasy Faire count as an exit gift shop for Mickey’s PhilharMagic? You don’t have to walk through but it’s right there open to the exit walkway and is themed to the attraction.
  • Does Pete’s Silly Sideshow count as an attraction? Does Princess Fairy Tale Hall exit through Sir Mickey’s?

Disney’s Hollywood Studios:
  • Toy Story Mania! has that pathetic room they added, Jessie’s Trading Post.
  • Did Voyage of the Little Mermaid exit through the shop in its building?

Epcot:
  • Mission: SPACE exits through Mission: SPACE Cargo Bay.
  • Test Track exited through Test Track SIMporium.
  • Impressions de France exits through Souvenirs de France.
  • Reflections of China exits through House of Good Fortune.
  • Grand Fiesta Tour is in the gift shop.

Toy Story Midway Mania: If I recall you walk through it now. You used to walk by it.

Tiana: main walk takes you into small shop but I believe you can walk around it.

Flight of Passage: Main exit takes you into gift shop but you can duck out through a gate at bottom of steps/ramp.

Beauty and the Beast Sing Along/Impressions de France exits directly into gift shop next to counter service

Reflections of China: Into House of Good Fortune

I remember when ToT was new the Tower Gifts shop was on one side and there was a corridor to one side so you didn’t have to go through, it had changed the last time I went to Florida in 1999.

When I first visited China circlevision I remember going into the giftshop but I could be remembering wrong, the same with Malestrom and endor vendors at star tours and the country bears opened into a restaurant. I think there was a shop at the end of the animation tour as well.

My favourite exit though was the studio tram tour when you exited through the AFI showcase museum- lots of cool movie history there

Pirates at Walt Disney world was the first ride built with a shop Dump…I think?
My first visit was in 1983 and I am fairly sure that we exited Pirates into a gift shop. Swords, treasure chests, etc. I remember us joking about how everything ends in a store. Nowhere near as many as there are now, but I remember more than one. However, I've been many times since then so memories might just run into each other.

No, no. God no.

Classic Disney was about elegance and surprising sophistication. The insulting in-yer-face strategy of exits through gift shop are Eisner era. Can't think of the exact first, probably late eighties.

Well, technically you were exiting the entire park through the gift shop, thanks to Main Street USA being a series of actual shops.

Now it’s one long mini-mall.

Always has been but never more than it was when Disneyland first opened. At least now it is somewhat connected to Disney. Back then it was a wonder that Sears wasn't there selling washers and dryers. I believe that there was even a store that sold Piano's. I wonder if they had special bags to carry those home. You ladies could even pick up a new bra at another store.

Yeah, the whole park has become a gift shop of Disney schlock. A better question is probably when did the quality drop to this level. I remembered in the 70's going to the toy shop in Disneyland had a wow factor for me because they sold higher end toys than I would normally see in stores back home and they weren't all Disneyfied, you could find higher end Corgi cars that had nothing to do with a single Disney movie or character... Now I might as well be in a Walmart or Big Lots as I'm going to see the same cheap crap in every shop in the parks and all of it somehow Disneyfied and tied into to some Disney movie or character.
