No... a very real looking standalone walking Dinosaur.

It wasn't Lucky, the walking dino, that was on that show. It was way too big. Are you saying that what was on that show is another walking Dinosaur in the works?

What's the big deal with the effect of a character lifting up or otherwise interacting with a ride vehicle? Some people seem to be over-reacting a little bit. I mean, sure it's cool, but we've already seen this effect before - in Universal's Kongfrontation attraction. Kong "hit" the ride vehicle in the first confrontation scene, and then "lifted it up" in the second scene. And that was built over a decade ago.

Now, if this snow creature picked up a passenger out of the train (a CM actor), and then ate, him, .... then I'd be impressed. Everyone would really freak out.

WDI in Burbank is currently animating Aladar, the large dino from Dinosaur. The plans are for him to actually walk along parade routes. He's not attached to a cart, and he is equipped with hundreds of sensors. No human is inside him, but he is human controlled... to an extent using radio waves and other wireless technology. He's like a giant remote control toy... but is so gentle, it's amazing. He's huge enough to amaze, yet smooth and real enough not to scare children. What you saw on the Travel Channel was indeed this. Not the Yeti. Aladar was planned to be used at Disneyland Park, but I believe the plans have changed. But make no mistake, we'll see him. Oh, Lucky was one of TIME's inventions of the year, in case you didn't know. I'm sure Aladar will be the real invention of the year when he comes out. In case you're wondering, TIME's Invention of the Year was the iTunes Music Store last year. :hammer: Lucky lost out on the title cause of the iTunes Music Store.:dazzle: But Lucky was mentioned as one of the "other" inventions of the year. :) Keep your eyes open for Aladar. :)

Going OT for a min.....

Thats not suprising with Time Magazine. While i would hope that there would be a line between editorial content and the buisiness side of their parent company, Time-Warner, i gotta see this as more as a case of synergy and promotion of a product.

Since iTunes promotes the legal sale of music, some of which is owned by Time-Warner, it's pretty simple to see why Time chose it as their 'invention of the year' - Beacuse it increases THEIR profits. Its a severe conflict of interest and underminds the objectivity of the magazine.

Ten years ago, i'd never have thought TW was able to do anything that underhanded, but since AOL bought them? Anything is possible....

That and its not like iTunes is anything new or revolutionary; its just a beefed up, commercial store that sells MP3s. Ecommerce has been around for 10 years, and MP3 technology has been around since before Napster. So where is this a "new" invention? :fork: :fork:

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know they were working on more than one walking dino, as I thought Lucky was it...not to mention I thought any other walking animatronics they were building to "roam" the park would be kept small like this so as to not hurt anyone. I had absolutely no idea what that thing was on the Travel Channel. I look forward to seeing Aladar one day actually "roam" around. Afterall, it would go perfectly with Dinosaur and AK since we bring him back with us on the ride ;)

Actually, what you see on the Travel Channel special is not a dinosaur at all.
Yes, WDI is at work on an "Aladar" and a couple other similar projects, but what was seen on TV was an early prototype, called the "autonomous walking platform".
Lucky is several generations beyond that prototype. So will be the Aladar, etc.
The Yeti is a whole different deal.

Oh, and they are working on this stuff in Glendale, not Burbank.:animwink:

Whoops, I feel stupid now. Yea, Glendale is where WDI is. I've been too involved in the Animation crap. :hurl: And what I've seen on Travel is a dino, they even talked about it. It's times like this I wish I recorded it. But I'm sure Lee's also correct about a segment in another show on Travel. Always is. :D

Thanks for correcting my mistakes Lee!
