Everest Encounters Setback

Now I just heard that the cue will still have props. But it will encompas a well put together movie as well. A giant plasma screen display will be somewhere in the line cue. Think Spiderman-ish at Universal's Island's of Adventure. But the cue will be detailed. Just not as much as the old plans called for. But every cloud has a silver lining. Spoiler alert! The Yeti is 28 feet tall. Though "Fearless Leader" is planning to trim him down too. But since it's already half made, I'm not believing that a whole lot can be trimmed off of the Yeti. Plus the Yeti isn't a stationary animatronic. I know a lot of you were thinking that the Yeti is going to be like the abominable snowman at Disneyland in the Matterhorn. Well, that can't be farther from the truth. The Yeti is fierce looking, and is covered with dark hair. He also shakes, rattles and roars.:lookaroun Pretty cool animatronic, eh?

But it's for a worthy cause! At the end of the year he will get more money! :hammer:
I'm so happy he-who-must-not-be-named isn't getting it his way for a change!:)

Not really. Only the head & upper body move in DINOSAUR. But the Yeti is the largest and most advanced animatronic to date.:D

Could everest perhaps use the same type system as ToT and Indy Adventure? The system where every time you ride it's always differnt? That would be pretty cool!

The Yeti has much more in common with the old Kong at USF than Harold at the Matterhorn.
But, I don't mean to say that it's as static and cumbersome as Kong. Quite the opposite.

As long as EE isn't as bad as Kongfrontation! I'll be happy

IMO, Kongfrontation! was the worst "major" theme park attraction I've ever been on (followed closely by Jaws and Earthquake).

Could that huge "moving" animatronic seen on the Travel Channel special about Imagineers be a close relative to the Yeti? ;)

(For those who might not have seen it...in that show, they had a section on the future of Imagineering. One of the things showed three or more "rows" of Imagineers seated together looking forward. Then, a huge wall fell down right next to them on the one side and they "pretend" to be in "shock" as this huge (although 4-legged) animatronic (just the under-workings...no skin or anything) came literally walking out towards them. A lot of people figured this was "Lucky",the first free-walking animatronic that Imagineers debuted last year at DCA. However, Lucky turned out to be a rather small dino that walked on two legs and no where near the size of the thing saw on the Travel Channel...it would be cool if the Yeti were somehow like that...actually walking towards you :))

What luck, above I mentioned the Imagineer special on the Travel channel with that "walking" animatronic and it just so happens that it will be on this Friday at 5pm. From the Travel Channel:

Friday, January 30, 5:00 p.m.: "Disney's Imagineers." Learn about the process behind the creation of attractions for the Disney theme parks, from initial concept to design to construction and testing, and explore some of WDW's most popular attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

I'm pretty sure this is the same show they aired a long time ago with the animatronic I talked about. Enjoy :)

I doubt that Everest will be different every time. The reason for this being that it is a roller coaster that follows a set track. It's not like the trains can derail (god forbid) and go wherever they want.

Is it really true that Indy Adventure is random? I had know idea! I've never been to DL so I can't comment on experience, but I thought that that Indy Adventure was programmed with only one ride setting (like Dinosaur, which is a direct clone).

Yes the Indy adventure is different every time, but only in small ways. Sometimes you go through a different door, the snake attacks differently, slightly different audio, .....nothing major.

That is really awesome. I've been to WDW like 21 times (not a small task considering I'm only 18 and live like 16 hours away), but I've never had the chance to go to Disneyland.

Why was such a feature left out of Dinosaur?

I've noticed small variations in the ride flow every time I've been on it, but that really means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I believe that CTX has this synamic ride feature, but it's not as noticable due to the different nature of the ride. CTX is nowhere near as detailed or lively as IJA. Where they have snakes that lunge at your car, we have a black-lit thunderstorm. Where they have a huge lava pit with fireballs, we have cheesy trees and fake jungle plants.

Granted, the ride is a blast, and it is more geared toward thrills than IJA. In CTX, we stop , then cruise quickly through jungle scenery, then stop again, then lunge forward. It really is a lot of fun, but it could also be so much more.

Whew. Time to get back on topic?

I don't understand this. Last time I went to the park, I always took FastPass. Ok, I didn't do the exterior queueline (but it doesn't seem it is the most important part), but I entered the temple and saw the whole thing inside. So? For me, even the stand by guests that visit the park when there are no queuelines will see the same as me, by entering the temple immediatly (this is a reason why I love the US FastPass lines, in that they are the same as the "regular lines". In Paris, to adapt, they made shortcuts, and there you miss everything!

True, the fastpass line does go through the entie queue.
The problem is that it goes through it at a fast pace.
Did you have time to stop and watch the newsreel film which sets up the story of the ride? Did you get to pull on the pole that starts the cave-in? Did you get to pull the rope in the well? Did yo get to try to deciper the Mara language?
Most likely you walked though without stopping until you reached the load area. The result: elaborate queue wasted.

No... a very real looking standalone walking Dinosaur.
