Epcot's Nightmare Christmas just wont go away

The nightmare known as Epcot Christmas 2009 just wont go away. It's January 9 2010, and Epcot is still limping along in it's Christmas mode. The tree is there, the music is playing. I would have thought that after the holidays were so badly received at Epcot, they would want it gone as quickly as possible - obviously not.

The same is true at Magic Kingdom, everything is still up, and I understand it will be until the 14th.

None of the guests are intersted in the docorations now, Christmas is over. It's quite interesting to see how their reaction is different. Before and during Christmas, everyone wants their photo with the tree. Now, they just walk on by, wondering why the heck it's still Christmas at WDW when it's long over.

Of course, all the good stuff is gone. Things guests would want to see. Such as Peace on Earth, Candlelight, and the Osborne Lights.

Have Disney laid off a good chunk of Holiday services? I know they arent leaving them up as a service for the guests, it's because they don't have the resources to get them all taken down quickly.

I wondered since Marathon weekend was so early this year they kept it up. During the race this morning, my goal was to get to the Magic Kingdom before the sun came up and it was nice running down Main Street with the garland and the tree up. But some reason the snowflakes didn't taste like soap this morning!

In some places Christmas is celebrated throughout January. So I wouldn't conclude Christmas is "over". Perhaps Disney is acknowledging that as they get a lot of international visitors. I like it. Hope it's a trend. :xmas:

Nah I don't buy it. If that was the intention, why isn't the good stuff still running? The only things left are the items that don't have any significant running expenses, and that do require a lot of resources to take them down.

In the old days the decorations would magically appear the day after thanksgiving, all in one go. They would all be removed within a day Around Jan 2.

The only reason they are up us that they don't have the resources to get them down, and it's bad show.

I gotta say it's quite annoying! I was hoping to hear the normal EPCOT BGM this week but got hit with the never ending christmas at WDW. I did get the impression that guests were wondering why there was chrismtas music playing.

Another reason why the Tree still could be up, is for the tourists.. I mean christmas isn't celebrated in every country.

Probably not. :D

But seriously, leaving a few decorations up until January 6th or later is a nice touch IMO. The Christmas season does not end for everyone on December 26th.

Perhaps Disney will bring Carnival to Epcot someday to bridge the time from Christmas to the Flower and Garden opening. Something like January 7th until mid-March.

Just a thought. :king:

Ehh...I always thought it was customary to leave it up for Three Kings Day, or whatever. Either way, I don't like it. Always thought that it looked cheap after the fact.

It isn't "after the fact" at all. Please with the xenophobia. :lookaroun

Isn't World Showcase about learning of other cultures and traditions? Quite frankly I'm shocked by the intolerance.

What's intolerant or xenophobic about not liking Christmas Decorations up after New Years?

Thanks for trying to pin the bad name on the Explorer, though!

Huh?! jt...Where the heck did you pull that out of?

Talk about quantum leaps!

So you can dish out the sarcasm but you can't take it?

Seriously, I don't see a problem with Christmas decorations up until early January. In fact I rather approve.:xmas:

Studios still has theirs up as well, but over the past couple days I've noticed a few store windows making the switch back to normal along Hollywood Blvd. I actually do believe they are left up for the international visitors who celebrate Christmas around Jan. 5th. Just as Disney acknowledges Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in various ways, they should feel obligated to acknowledge that Christmas doesn't end after Dec 25th as some people celebrate it later. As long as it starts to come down next week and is gone by MLK day, I think it will be fine.

See, I had no idea that was sarcasm. Without a reference point on you, it's heard to tell. Apologies.

I think it would be easier to swallow if they had the whole thing going...Christmas Parades, Fireworks, the whole deal.

To me, it looks cheap just leaving stuff on without anything to back it up.

We will be there Sunday for a week, probably freezing to death. Christmas decorations would be nice, especially with the cold.
