Epcot's Illuminations & A Question about our loved Adventurers Club

Hello everyone -

So my family and I are currently at WDW and enjoying every minute of it. Unfortunately we missed Michael Phelps (we were spending the morning at the pool and had no idea we were just a short monorail ride away from the big parade and festivities going on at MK!!)

So anyway, two questions have popped up while we've been here and I'm hoping to get some answers...
First, We just saw Illuminations tonight for the 2nd time while here and there was no globe again. So what's the deal?? Where's the globe?? Is it gone for good??

Second, a few nights ago we went to the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island and there was some talk about the club closing. We overheard that the AC is privately owned and the owner has already started to slowly move out some of the "artifacts". I was not aware the AC was privately owned. Is this true?? And if so, does the private owner own other clubs?? Would he reopen AC elsewhere in Orlando or preferrably somewhere close to Disney??

Thanks!!

The globe is being refurbed. I am not sure how long it will be out. As far as the AC question, I do not know.

It is owned by Merriweather Adam Pleasure a wealthy industrialist.;)

Story aside, I believe Joe Rhode owns some of the artifacts (he was part of the team that created the club). I'm sure he'll be reclaiming them. I would love to have a few of the pieces in there...perhaps I should contact Professor Hodges...:drevil:

The Earth barge is out for a much needed refit for 6 or so weeks. As for AC, I wasn't aware that it was privately owned. Disney may have sold the property to someone, but who knows.

The AC along with every other club at PI will close their doors for good on September 27th of this year. Unless the concept has recently been sold the AC is owned by Disney and if it does reopen it will almost definitely be at Disney.

This is what I thought as well but according to this group at AC, the Club is not owned by Disney but by an outside person who leases the property and they were very convincing.

In all my years I have never heard that. It does not mean that it is not true but I highly doubt it. You will also find people insist that the monorail was going to go through the swan and Dolphin like it does at the Contemporary, Horizons was closed because it was sinking into a sink hole and Cinderellas Castle can be quickly disassembled in the event of a hurricane. There is no shortage of tall tales that float around WDW.

Either they were being elitists or just joking with you, but it is indeed Disney owned. The information provided by Str8fan is accurate and is the basis for all of Pleasure Island. More information can be found here:
