News EPCOT's Harmonious to be replaced with new nighttime spectacular Luminous

DAK needs them more, they should just drain the lake, treat it and do a WoC style show.
That would be nice. I remember catching a glimpse of Rivers of Light (We Are One) while on Everest and it was pretty beautiful from up there, so I'd imagine something even more grand like WoC would be even better.

You’re probably right, though if it means oil rigs are never again anchored in WSL, that’s fine with me. Honestly, some modest fountain barges and a slightly healthier pyro budget and EPCOT Forever would be a very solid permanent show.

I suppose real time proof of this misguided lesson is the mess of EPCOT’s core. Another instance of much time and money spent on a questionable project. And now yet more time and effort being taken to rebuild a smaller, inferior version of what we had.
I’m all about simplifying the hardware so it can be moved in and out nightly as long as the show is worthy of the lagoon.

I have a feeling though that the lesson learned will not be a positive thing for us fans. I think we will see much simpler, far less ambitious shows in the style of EPCOT Forever, and anything more will be viewed as too risky and expensive.
Honestly, the only lesson they need to learn is to not ever create hardware that a) has to be permanently anchored in the lagoon and b) is horribly expensive to maintain. Harmonious is only a disaster because of the poor decisions made with the infrastructure. Even if the show had been an absolute dud, reprogramming it would have been much less of an issue had they focused on making multi-purpose, movable hardware.

That doesn’t make the new show sound to promising if it’s like Epcot Forever. I hope the new show still has fountains and spot lights.

Even ignoring maintenance issues, Florida’s Fantasmic! is now the much better version of the show, not that you’ll hear many Disneylanders admit it.

Sounds like I’ll have to give it another chance at HS, as a DL regular I havent bothered seeing it in HS in probably 6-7 years, it used to be so bad compared to DLs show I found the time better spent in shorter lines.

I donno, I think it is a pretty sad sight. Yes they were a mess in the lagoon in the daytime, but there was a huge amount of effort put into getting these working by a lot of dedicated people. To see it go without being reused and scrapped after such a short time is a shame.
Completely agree with that.

I don't see it that way. The effort it took to create these employed people and most likely increased general knowledge both on the technical aspects as well as social. Not a total loss, in fact a very large gain.

While I never liked the implementation of the physical barges or the heavy handed use of IP in a park that in the past was mostly devoid of it, it was a fun party while they lasted.

I think after all of this there's been lessons learned. They got familiar with new tech but also learned the massive importance of a full lagoon view of all hardware and the daytime impacts it can have. As well as being forced to do maintenance in the lagoon versus backstage.

There should've been a large chunk of money set aside for a lift-bridge upgrade and marina expansion. That probably would've saved the entire project in the end.

I would agree with this if DHS got DL's dragon, and they updated to rockwork to match disney's contemporary standards
The dragon is definitely the biggest weakness of the DHS version. But I do think Florida’s show is better in terms of musical score, lighting/laser design, and overall story flow. In trying to modernize Fantasmic! at DL, I feel they strayed a bit too far from the original version, and the end result is worse for it.

I wonder what the chances of all the barges being gone for my visit in 2 weeks....seems like they are moving along. I loved Harmonious and also agree that we'll likely see less ambitious shows on the lagoon.

And hopefully they've learned a lesson not to do something like this again.
