EPCOT's Future World to become Discoveryland on October 1??

Discovery World would just constantly remind me of the children's science museum in Milwaukee of the same name. I'm not sure if there would be any problem with that, probably not.

In that case they should name Future World the Public Museum, cause that's what it reminds me of between the dinos of UOE, the rainforest section of LWTL, SSE ect. Certainly would be a possitive connotation IMO. ;)

Any Milwaukeeans (or possibly southeast WI/northern IL) will know what I'm talking about.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but which browing through Jim Hill Media.com news archives, I ran across an article which states that EPCOT's Future World is going to be renamed Discoveryland, which is also the name used for Disneyland Paris' slightly modified version of Tomorrowland. Could someone here fill me in a little about this, whether this is true or not? There have been so many rumors about future developments for WDW, it's hard to know WHO to believe!

Here is a link to the article: http://www.jimhillmedia.com/article.php?id=332

No way jose!!!

And some advice... Don't believe Jim Hill...

I have no problem with Jim Hill, persay. Just his methods.

For instance, I'm sure he has an inside source, as much as what he has reported has come true in at least some form.....some form. Herein lies the issue. His sources are somewhat involved in "blue sky" projects that may or may not ever see fruition. He gets a story that sounds like it's going to mean huge things, however, in the end it gets budgeted and downsized to something more manageable.....in the process what he reported and what actually came to be became two different things. He reports what could be as facts, and rarely steps up and says what faze of development the project is in.

Look, in any case this article was written three years ago...by Jim Hill. Can we just drop it (like it's hot). Thanks for your cooperation!

Jim Hill is fun to read, but I think you always have to keep in mind that he is talking about plans, and often Imagineering plans. He's talking about what the Imagineers would like to do. So, when he writes (in Feb 2003) that Future World will become Discoveryland in Oct 2006 (3 1/2 years down the road) you have to take that for what it is - a plan, a proposal, a possibility.

He even says at the end that he doesn't think Project Gemini would happen in its entirety. I'm always surprised when people chastize him for erroneous predications when it's clear that he's always talking about what might happen. Even when he says something will happen, it's really a writing style that he's employing.

I enjoy reading about things that never happened and things that might. I'm sure Jim Hill uses the adage: as long as they talk about me.

Tomm,

Don't apologize for Jim Hill or try to explain him to folks here.. people think he's rotten for a reason.

He'll take things out of context and blow them out of proportion. For example, if I said to someone about the new Nemo ride...

Friend: How's the ride work coming?

Me: It stinks!! The paint they're using smells horrible, like nail polish, yuck.

Friend: Really?

Me: Yeah, but what can you do? It's the expensive stuff. The giftshop and all is being done.

Jim Hill would publish that the Imagineers working on Nemo think the project is abysmal, quoting "stinks", and say money is being spent in the wrong places like the giftshop.

I wish he'd fade into oblivion rather than misleading people.

People are only misled if they allow themselves to be. The beauty of any columnist is that you don't have to read them!

What does that mean exactly?

Its a Lord of the Rings term.

In other words, Grizz has decided to leave the boards because other members were rude to him. I'm sure some day, he'll pay us all a visit again...
